Edwin McCain Performs National Anthem

Biography

In a way, Edwin McCain began sowing the seeds of Mercy Bound, his tenth album and debut for 429 Records, seven years ago. The songs comprising Mercy Bound are the fruits of an on-again, off-again collaboration with fellow singer/songwriter Maia Sharp that began in 2004 with their lovely duet “Say Anything.” Since co-writing and tracking that song, McCain and Sharp have kept up ... Editorial Reviews

2011 album from the singer/songwriter. With a wall of platinum and gold albums that have sold in the millions, Edwin McCain began sowing the seeds of his 10th album, Mercy Bound, seven years ago. The songs comprising Mercy Bound are the fruits of a collaboration with fellow singer/songwriter Maia Sharp, who also produced the album and is a lush, melodic personal journey both have traveled. Reflecting on his collaboration with Sharp on Mercy Bound, McCain says, "Sometimes I think your ego tricks you into thinking, 'I have to write everything,' but, no, you don't have to write everything, you just have to love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't stop listening to it August 31, 2011
By MLM
Format:Audio CD
I've been a fan for over 15 years, and this album is one of my favorites. I had heard several of the songs at a recent performance in Columbia, SC, and am so glad to finally hear them again on the album. Love the writing and background vocal skills of Maia Sharp, as she helped write several of the songs. My favorites so far are "Boom," "Boy Who Cried Love" and "Sober". I've been listening to it so much, my kids are starting to sing along :-) Not only is Edwin a stellar singer/songwriter, but he's a great human being. He continues to amaze me with his writing and singing, and always tells a story with his music. My favorite aspect is how he's matured both as a musician and a human being, whether it be through getting married, getting older, having kids, or going through family illnesses. If you've been a fan through the years, you'll love this album. If you're new to his music, check this out, and you'll be a fan for life. Thanks, Edwin, for continuing to entertain all of us.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed... September 5, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
First of all, let me clarify how huge of an Edwin fan I am. I have been listening to him for 16 years now, seen him live 11 times, and have met him twice. I own all of his albums. He is an amazingly talented artist that is definitely THE BEST live performer I've ever seen (and I've seen a ton). With that being said, I was so excited to receive my pre-ordered copy of Mercy Bound. There are some songs that are just "eh", but definitely some great ones also. "The Boy Who Cried Love" is one that will get stuck in your head whether you want it to or not. Another favorite on the disc is "Better Story To Tell". I was sad to see that a lot of the songs weren't written by Edwin. I always admired the fact that he wrote most/all of his songs. I also was not impressed to see that Maia Sharp was the one who worked on this album. A lot of the songs I am not thrilled about are ones she wrote. She does sing on one of them, and we could have done without that. I'm not bashing her or anything, I just personally don't care for her voice. I wasn't impressed with it in "Say Anything" from his Scream & Whisper album. She sounds like a man to me. Anyway, I will always buy Edwin's albums no matter what because he is my absolute favorite musician, and I will always support him so that he continues to make beautiful music. I just wish he would go back to the likes of Honor Among Thieves, Misguided Roses, and Messenger. Those are my 3 favorite albums!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great album from Edwin September 19, 2011
By Gator70
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Edwin is about my favorite, but I've always had to listen to each album a few times to grow into it. Same with this one. I liked it on the first listen, but have grown to love it over the past week. He just has a great sound all his own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Album September 2, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
This is a great album filled with emotion and instant favorites. From the welcome of The Boy Who Cried Love to the sweet farewell of The Lucky One, this album is packed with great songs. This should easily get me through until the next time he heads down my way on tour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edwin does it AGAIN!!! August 30, 2011
By KLynn
Format:Audio CD
After months of eagerly waiting for the release, Mercy Bound holds up to the hype! Reminiscent of the lyrical genius of Messenger and Lost in America's rock beats, this is Edwin at his best. Fast-paced fun songs like "Boy Who Cried Love" mixed with his always good soulful melodies like "Story to Tell" and "Strange Angel," McCain keeps your attention with every song. Another duet with Maia Sharp on "Uncharted," completes Edwin's eclectic album. All in all, a great success, and an album will surely be on my daily playlist for months to come!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mercy Bound August 30, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Solid album all the way through...Well written songs and the voice sounds as great as ever.
In typically Edwin fashion he covers a great Anders Osborne song "The Lucky One" and makes it sound like his and as solid as the original version if not better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Waiting!! August 30, 2011
By Peach
Format:Audio CD
Oh this album was so worth the wait. I have been a fan since the Wild Wing and Tiki Hut. There is nothing like seeing Edwin live. It's an experience everyone should have and I'm so looking forward to hearing more of these new songs live. Just like a good wine you get better with age. A fan forever!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Lacks quality audio
Not sure if this CD produced in McCain's own studio is reason for "scratchy" sound quality or what, but first CD by artist where I was disappointed due to this issue.
