Can't stop listening to it,
By MLM "MLM" (North Carolina) - See all my reviews

I've been a fan for over 15 years, and this album is one of my favorites. I had heard several of the songs at a recent performance in Columbia, SC, and am so glad to finally hear them again on the album. Love the writing and background vocal skills of Maia Sharp, as she helped write several of the songs. My favorites so far are "Boom," "Boy Who Cried Love" and "Sober". I've been listening to it so much, my kids are starting to sing along :-) Not only is Edwin a stellar singer/songwriter, but he's a great human being. He continues to amaze me with his writing and singing, and always tells a story with his music. My favorite aspect is how he's matured both as a musician and a human being, whether it be through getting married, getting older, having kids, or going through family illnesses. If you've been a fan through the years, you'll love this album. If you're new to his music, check this out, and you'll be a fan for life. Thanks, Edwin, for continuing to entertain all of us.

Edwin is about my favorite, but I've always had to listen to each album a few times to grow into it. Same with this one. I liked it on the first listen, but have grown to love it over the past week. He just has a great sound all his own.

First of all, let me clarify how huge of an Edwin fan I am. I have been listening to him for 16 years now, seen him live 11 times, and have met him twice. I own all of his albums. He is an amazingly talented artist that is definitely THE BEST live performer I've ever seen (and I've seen a ton). With that being said, I was so excited to receive my pre-ordered copy of Mercy Bound. There are some songs that are just "eh", but definitely some great ones also. "The Boy Who Cried Love" is one that will get stuck in your head whether you want it to or not. Another favorite on the disc is "Better Story To Tell". I was sad to see that a lot of the songs weren't written by Edwin. I always admired the fact that he wrote most/all of his songs. I also was not impressed to see that Maia Sharp was the one who worked on this album. A lot of the songs I am not thrilled about are ones she wrote. She does sing on one of them, and we could have done without that. I'm not bashing her or anything, I just personally don't care for her voice. I wasn't impressed with it in "Say Anything" from his Scream & Whisper album. She sounds like a man to me. Anyway, I will always buy Edwin's albums no matter what because he is my absolute favorite musician, and I will always support him so that he continues to make beautiful music. I just wish he would go back to the likes of Honor Among Thieves, Misguided Roses, and Messenger. Those are my 3 favorite albums!
