4.0 out of 5 stars Krueger is one of the few that can get away with this ending.
I love Kreuger's writing. He creates characters about whom you care, a plot that carries you without fault from beginning to end, a sense of place you can see and dialogue you can hear. He even get away with an ending that, from a lesser author, would be a wallbanger for me, but I know I'll read Krueger's next book anyway, so I forgive him but it did cause me to drop...

Talk about feeling manipulated!!

Well, I'll pass on that seguel.

If you've not read Krueger, do, but I would start at the beginning.

I happen to pick up one of Mr. Krueger's books because it seemed like something that I would like to read.
Since then, I have read every book written by William Kent Krueger.

As every one of his books, "Mercy Falls" will captive you and you will not be able to put it down.
His writing makes you feel as if you're living within the story.

Believe me...when you're done, you'll be hunting for more William Kent Krueger's books!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Mercy Falls - Good till the end., October 1, 2005

Krueger's ending sucked in my opinion. I wanted to tear it out and rewrite it. I don't want to wait months to see what the hero, Cork, does next. It really ticked me off. The book, till the ending was great, as has been all his Iron Lake stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mercy Falls -a good read, January 1, 2008
This review is from: Mercy Falls (Cork O'Connor Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the 5th book in this series by Krueger. While the plot is good, at times it wanders and is difficult to connect all the dots. However it finishes strong and does eventually pulol the loose ends together in a satisfactory fashion. I like Kruegers writing style and his characters are believable and enjoyable. This book will entertain if nothing else!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great entry and read to the series, October 8, 2005

Recently met the author and what a nice man/author. It was a complete pleasure to talk about the series and the upcoming books. I have had this series on my shelves for awhile and just got around to reading them all back to back. That is the upside and the downside is I should have read Mr. Krueger's books sooner. What a great series. Love all the characters no matter if good or bad or who they are. It is great the way Minnesota is also a character to the books. I have only positives to say. Now , the ending to this book.....at first all I could think was how long the next wait between books was going to be....but as this series goes forward I am sure that this ending will test all the characters in this book and maybe that is as it should be....because we cannot change the ending :) I am finally at 'peace' with the ending and I am now thinking that I should have waited until next summer to read all the titles back to back !!

This is a great series, the interaction of the family and friends is genuine and real to life. The ending of this particular book left me anxious for the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mercy Falls is must read for any mystery fan!, September 6, 2005
In Mercy Falls, Sheriff Cork O'conner has 2 separate cases to deal with. First, one of his deputies is in the hospital as a result of what appears to have been an ambush for Cork. Shortly afterwards, a Chicago businessman, in town negotiating with the tribal casino, is found brutally murdered. The deceased family comes to town, Cork discovers that his half brother was a serious old flame of Cork's wife. Mercy Falls is as much a thiller as it is a mystery. Each of the 2 cases build to a climax at different points in the book. I
I have always been impressed with Mr. Krueger's writing, but this book takes it to the next level. Many authors get caught in a rut because they are afraid to move their characters forward in life. Kent has no problem taking chances and this makes the stories more breathtaking and his characters more realistic. While some readers may have problems with it, I find I have more of an emotional investment in Cork and his family with each book.

There is not a bad book in author's entire catalog, but this one is true gem. I did not think he could top Blood Hollow, but Mercy Falls is the best book I have read in 05.It is both a thriller and a mystery with a cliff-hanger of an ending that will knock you for a loop. Get back to your desk, Kent! I don't think I can wait another year to see what happens next.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mercy, Mercy, June 21, 2006

This is my first book by Krueger and I don't feel I need to go back and pick up on the past history of Cork and Jo as this one pretty much spelled it out for you. I don't like endings like this either that MAKE you read the next one.

Try John Lescroart's mystery, sleuth, court room dramas he sticks with the main 2 characters and their adventures but each one ends and is nicely tied up.
But I would surely start at the beginning of these adventures to learn of the 2 main guys histories. These books will leave you satisfied.
