3.0 out of 5 stars DVD Problem
The concert was good. As some have pointed out, the continuity is disrupted by unfortunate edits. One big problem; the DVD will not produce 5.1 surround. It has the setup menu and declares that it is DD 5.1 on the case but when it goes to play it reverts to standard stereo. Same result on multiple players. So don't expect great sound if you have a high-end sound system.

This review is from: Mercy Me - Live (DVD)
The following items are on this DVD:

Disk 1 contains performances of the following songs:

In the Air Tonight
On My Way to You
The Change Inside of Me
Here Am I
Fairest Lord Jesus / How Great Is Your Love
Love of God
Here With Me
I Surrender All
Homesick
He Is Lord
Spoken For
Word of God Speak
Homesick Reprise
I Can Only Imagine
Where the Streets Have No Name

Disk 2 contains the following features:

An inside look at the tour
Stuff about the band
The story behind "I Can Only Imagine"
Baseball National Anthems (US and Canada)
A look at the music business
Karaoke for I Can Only Imagine, Here Am I, The Change Inside of Me, Word of God Speak, and Here With Me

I gave the DVD 5 stars even though it is missing a number of my Mercy Me favorites. The presentation is "on stage," live, instead of music videos; I like that - you get to see the group perform and watch the people in the audience react. The performances are very moving, especially if you allow yourself to drift into the music. The audience is obviously "getting into" the music, and watching them is part of the fun.

I use this DVD, along with a number of others, to assist in teaching a Sunday School class. The kids love the music, it can reinforce a point made in the lesson (kids remember music well), and it lets the kids know that Christian music can be pretty awesome. This DVD is especially awesome projected "big screen-style" on a wall in a Sunday School classroom; it feels like you are at the concert.

Christian music provides a wide variety of good songs to grow up on, and Mercy Me is one of my favorite Christian groups. Others favorites of mine are Soniflood, ApologetiX, and Switchfoot.

If you want a dose of Contemporary Christian music that is not too hard and not too soft, then this is a group you should check out. The DVD is a terrific presentation of their music and their skills. It is a great buy for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than I anticipated, March 8, 2005
This review is from: Mercy Me - Live (DVD)
I bought the live cd and dvd mainly because I like MercyMe's music and thought it'd be cool to have something new to listen to. Generally speaking live cd's are so-so as the music is what you know but generally a little different since it's live. The sound quality is usually not quite what you'd like and the concert footage generally ends up being watching the singer dance around on stage. Thankfully, there is nothing general about this live cd or dvd. The cd's music quality is wonderful and the great stage presence comes across. It's fun to listen to as well as Bart (lead singer) explains a few of the songs and even the story of how they got their name which is hilarious (I won't spoil it for anyone - get this and find out for yourself). The DVD is also great as you see more of the stage presence and what goes on behind the scenes in preparing for a concert tour as a whole and each individual concert. On the dvd you also get the story of how they got their name as well as extended explanations into songs such as "Imagine" and "Home Sick". Again, I'm not going to spoil anything but the stories of "Imagine" and "Home sick" brought a new appreciation of those particular songs. Overall, the concert that they show looks it was a blast to be at and the music was wonderful. I'll definitely be buying tickets to see them in concert when they come near here in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Way cooler than you can imagine, December 1, 2004

This review is from: Mercy Me - Live (DVD)
I got this DVD in 24th November 04 only, my birthday gift. I knew their famous song "I Can Only Imagine" and it had such a great impact on me...eventhough God has taken no one from me yet. Then I saw the video by iWorship which is more of a visualization aid for the song and that got me more interested in the band. You should get that too. That DVD is very good.
The band's testimony and history is quite amazing. To see what God has done in their life and how he had made everything happen in their lives for this special purpose, especially Bart. You should check out their website (mercyme.org) for more information or just buy the DVD.
There are 2 discs, 1 is the Live Concert with introductions and Commentaries, interviews by the band (individual members). The other disc is fully loaded with special features which will never stop amazing you.
The concert is one of the best I have seen. Great Praise and Worship and the song selection is amazing. I wasn't able to listen to any other music for a while...haha.
The song list has been given already so I won't go into that but let me tell you that all of them are really good. The mood, the flow and everything is amazing. Mercy Me has done a very wonderful job with this DVD...definitely God's with them, each and every step. Don't worry...they also perform 'I Can Only Imagine', which wasn't mentioned on the song list. They also perform some new songs and they are good...so they are on the right track and the future looks good.
Now the Bonus Disc. This is just too good, but you must be someone who likes to hear what the band has to say and the other things they do...
There is the 'On The Road' with video clips and interviews on "The Imagine" tour and other on the road stuff.
Then there is 'The Band' which includes band history, personal looks at band members and other stuff.
Now this is really good...the 'I Can Only Imagine' - the story behind the song, testemonies and music video. Many won't like the video (it's too melancholy and depressing...but I think it's a good idea). Check out the iWorship video for the song.
Then there is some more stuff...what the band did...
Finally...the best part is that there are few more music videos for some of their best songs (really cool). They are Here Am I, The Change Inside Of Me, Word of God Speak, Here With Me.
My final advice is get the DVD now! You won't regret it.

If Mercy Me ever reads this...thanks guys for everything. Its good so have people like you guiding the younger generation in the right path along with other bands like Third Day, Jars of Clay, Newsboys, Michael W Smith, etc. By the way...I'm from India. You guys should do a world tour sometime.
Anybody need any advice on music or bands...you can contact me. Thanks for reading my review. God Bless.

5.0 out of 5 stars worth every penny and then some, September 2, 2006

i am going to keep this short. just read the reviews about this dvd. everything these reviewers wrote is true. however, with all do respect, the review written by DAN THE MUSIC MAN has me baffled. i can't help but to disagree with his review. i felt that the breaks in the concert were tastefully done. i have seen alot of concerts where the breaks in the concert were very annoying and edited really bad. a good example of this is on a dvd entitled JAMIE CULLUM LIVE AT THE BLENHEIM PALACE. an amazingly talented guy but i found myself fast forwarding through the extras to get to the next song.however, another must have dvd. now, back to mercyme. one of the best bands i have ever experienced. worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very inspirational, personal, January 6, 2007

Snidely Whiplash (Mid Delta Mississippi) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mercy Me - Live (DVD)
Am a big MercyMe fan, saw this concert broadcast on a local Christian television station before purchasing the DVD. Don't have much to add to the positive reviews written here, just wanted to add my two cents that I thought the opening and closing numbers surprised me, the closing song in particular had me for some reason moved to tears, as the band paid tribute to one of the best Modern Rock bands in the past 30 years, and did it in a way that totally glorified the song as a worship song. No spoilers here, watch the DVD and maybe you'll catch a glimpse into what I mean. Found the concert footage and inter splicings of extra footage to be very intimate and personal. Loved it!

I really enjoyed the DVD showing some personal info about the band. The only thing I don't like is the song I surrender all is not available to download and as far as I have seen its not on other CD's.
