5.0 out of 5 stars Mercy Watson:Something Wonky This Way Comes, February 7, 2010

I received this as a gift from my parents. I love Kate DiCamillo. My students love her work as well. I have an elementary class that wasn't too interested in reading. I began with Winn-Dixie and The Tales of Desperaux. Now when one of her books shows up in our library, it is difficult to check one out due to the students taking it out and reading them. I like this book especially because it use one of my favorite words "Wonky".

5.0 out of 5 stars As delightful as the others, December 29, 2009

We own all the Mercy Watson books and found this one to be as delightful as the others. Even thought my boys are older now, they insist on getting
Kate DiCAmillo's Mercy Watsons books when they come out. My youngest was fortunate enough to meet her at a local neighborhood book store and talk with her briefly about Mercy the pig. She was as delightful as her books!

Once I start a series and love the first two books ---- well, you just keep going.

I'm so glad the quality of Kate's Mercy Watson's stories have been consistent. I do like some better than others --- but the fact is, I like them all.

All the characters do appear in this book ---- amazing how clever she is to think of a way to bring them all in ---------oh, and introduce new characters as well.

It surprised me, we had let the books lie for a while ---- after reading every night for months --- and my daughter had forgotten our little cowboy friend. :) What a hoot.

I cannot say enough about this series! My daughter could not put the books down. This last installment will not disappoint if you have been following Mercy all along. The story is cute, funny, and interesting for young readers. We especially like that Kate DiCamillio uses words that challenge the young reader along with the easy reading text. The pictures are fabulous! This set is worth having in your home library!

this is our favorite of the series. These books are great to read to children and still when they transition to reading themselves.

Brought for a private school library. I had the first two books in the series and the children urged me to complete the series. The first graders love them! The teacher liked them also as they are easy enough for the children to read by themselves.

This is a great series and perfect for anyone who desires good literature that's entertaining but not bizarre in any way! Your child will laugh the entire way through! Illustrations strongly support the text and makes one want to laugh before even reading the content on the page!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mercy Watson, Star Pig, August 25, 2010
This review is from: Mercy Watson: Something Wonky This Way Comes (Hardcover)
My seven year old daughter loves Mercy. Mercy is a porcine wonder. Her parents, Mr & Mrs Watson call her our darling, our dear. Eugenia, the cranky old lady next door says, in her opinion, pigs belong on the farm. Baby Lincoln, her sweet sister, only says, oh dear. Mercy means well, but she always gets into another adventure & scrape in her quest for hot buttered toast. Or just butter, in the case of the drive in movies. My daughter howls & cackles out loud while reading these books. She can't get enough of Mercy being chased by Eugenia & being rescued by the boys at the fire department. We read a lot of books, but I can honestly say the only other books my daughter BEGS for & cackles out loud for, are the Mo Willems' Pig & Elephant books. The pictures only make the Mercy story better. Eugenia is an old blue haired lady with fire in her eye. Mercy looks like a happy piggy bank trotting about snuffling for hot buttered toast (or Eugenia's pansies.) These books are listed as almost third grade level. So a parent might want to read them to a younger child. They work well as an easy chapter reader for a more experienced young reader. They have some difficult words like exceedingly, & unmentionable horror, and all the odd names. But any child will enjoy the exploits of Mercy whether the parent reads, or the child reads with assistance. The only downside is that I have to break the news we only have one more Mercy book to go before we finish them all.
