This compilation cd is a great starting point to explore the work of this fantastic artist. The first two songs will reveal the earth from which her voice will continue to bloom, next there begin the more complex vocal textures that she paints so well, a remix of "The Tale" and other early works follow. Ms Monk along with her vocal ensemble create wonderful sonic journeys expressing every color and emotion that exist. Her compositons are mainly soft piano with voice taking the center stage, her music is like a sunrise or sunset or that look in the eye, unforgetable. She guides you gently down the stream of life sometimes suddenly shifting,with great contrast. A must listen, the summit of art music, all of her work in my opinion is 5 star.
My other favorites are: Dolmen Music, Volcano Songs, and Mercy...thank you and bless you Meredith Monk.
