3.0 out of 5 stars So-So
I have enjoyed the three books which came before this one in the series. And I LOVED the character of Truan Monroe when he was introduced in book 3. I was happy when I realized that he had gotten his own story and we could find out more about him. The only thing (a MAJOR thing) that didn't thrill me about this book was the heroine. I just couldn't see why she...

4.0 out of 5 stars Truan's Story Book Four In The Series!, January 26, 2003
This review is from: Merlin's Legacy: Shadows of Camelot (Merlin's Legacy , No 4) (Paperback)
I liked this book very much! This is Truan's story. We met him in book four and now he has is own story. Truan is the son of Merlin and he feels that there is no way he can love due to the fact that he is half mortal.

Amber (we met her in previous books as well) has suffered greatly and is unable to speak. She is drawn to Traun the 'fool' and jokster. Truan despite his best attempts also finds himself drawn to the the silent beauty. The darkness manages to get a hold of Amber and takes her back to the time of Aruthr. When Camelot was more then just a legend! Here Amber is able to speak and laugh and finds herself with no memory of Truan but is drawn to him just the same. The battle of good and evil is fought yet again in this magical place and love blooms for both Truan and Amber.

This was a great read and worthy of being part of the this romantic series.

I was happy when I realized that he had gotten his own story and we could find out more about him. The only thing (a MAJOR thing) that didn't thrill me about this book was the heroine. I just couldn't see why she appealed to him. Compared to Vivian, Brianna, and Cassandra she appeared dull and lackluster. Sorry if that appears harsh. Just my humble opinion! The bottom line is while I enjoyed the book I wasn't rooting for the couple to get together as strongly as I did in the first three.

4.0 out of 5 stars I was drawn into the book, the characters were so real., November 17, 1998

This review is from: Merlin's Legacy: Shadows of Camelot (Merlin's Legacy , No 4) (Paperback)
I started the book a week and a half ago, reading at work during my breaks. I couldn't put it down after I started.

Vivian is my heroin. Her magical ablities, inherited from her parents, Merlin and Ninian, and the healing ways learned from Meg and Poloudoras, gave her character intelligence, strength and wisdom. Even though she was afraid of the love she thought would destroy her, she learned that the love from a true heart would be her destiny. Her true love was found in ranks of the enemies camp. The one who kept her from her people, and bound her to an oath that she could not break. He was also the vision she had seen, rising from fire and blood. He was Rorke FitzWarren. The right-hand of William the Conqueror and friend.

The battle she fought within herself and the strength and wisdom she showed when when faced with a challenge was part of what made her real. Rorke recognized that she was a unique woman and treated her with the utmost respect. He was her enemy but his true heart and chivalry won her respect and then her love.

I very much enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I haven't read any other other books by this author, however, I will pick the rest and read them. This book was good. The lead character was the type of charactoer I love reading about. Strong, however not as strong as the power of love. Interesting twist on the old Arthurian books that I have no interest reading. I may pick up one of those books too. Thanks for introducing me the Arthur Legend.

3.0 out of 5 stars HELLLLLLPPPPPPPPP!, September 26, 2002
This review is from: Merlin's Legacy: Shadows of Camelot (Merlin's Legacy , No 4) (Paperback)
Warning, warning, this is a (gulp) romance novel. I have in the past vowed never never to read a romance novel. As a retired history teacher and an author and a student of Arthurian legend I picked up the first in the series and was hooked. The historical context is excellent. Then by the second one I realized that the love scenes were pretty much the same thing over and over. (The cover pictures should have alerted me.) By the third I began to skip the sex scenes and go for the story. Hey, I'm a happily married man with children and grandchildren. I know obviously many people go for this sort of thing as bookshelves are full of them. I promise I am not a snob nor am I knocking those who want this sort of thing. But seriously Ms. Evans you have the talent to write interesting, entertaining best sellers by sticking to story development. Our imagination can fill in the rest. I'm of the generation when you could see two lovers, a bed, and then just a curtain blowing in the breeze with musical background and know all that was going on. I give this book five stars for a historical novel that could have been the best and only one for the bosom heaving scenes. That unfortunately is an average of three. As I used to write on some student papers, "C, You can do much better work than this. I have faith in you."

I read many books because they are connected to the Arthurian legends. A friend of mine gave me this series, more or less as a joke. I suppose if you like romance novels, you will like these.

The reason I am reviewing this is in an attempt to have the book removed from my "Instant Recommendations" list...
