GORGEOUS,
By Tigerlily "-tigerlily-" (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Merlin's Book of Magick and Enchantment (Hardcover)
The other reviews I've read here on this book tend to describe it as informative and uplifting. The content is a good read, enjoyable for sure; to be honest though, I've been having trouble reading it. The artwork is magnificent; it keeps stealing my attention. As to the actual content, it is much more complete than I had anticipated from a book that isn't terribly long. Elements to festivals, divination to candle magick, spellcraft to visionquesting; it touches on a little bit of everything. I don't know why the publisher went out of stock on this one. The beautiful writing and the beautiful artwork make this...well....a beautiful book! If you can get your hands on a copy, I highly, highly recommend it.

Magick 101 - Touches on Everything,

This review is from: Merlin's Book of Magick and Enchantment (Hardcover)
I first thought this book was a children's storybook, until I read it further (easy read -- extremely well illustrated). It touched on everything in magick, from trees, ogham, spells, etc. Personally, I follow a Druidic path, but found many of the stories and suggestions in the book very helpful. I plan to use it as a bed-time book for my niece!

Merlin's book of magick,
By A Customer
This review is from: Merlin's Book of Magick and Enchantment (Hardcover)
In all our technological design and wonderment,we the people of today still hunger for even more knowledge and understanding. However it was said many a time that in order for us to advance to the future we must first know from whence we first came. Merlins book of magick, gives a brief but tantilizing glance of the mythical or even perhaps romantic past? Yet I must caution those that find this book and others such like as a mere romantic fancy, and perhaps just fancy dream weaving. Forget not that only a short time ago we fought with swords, and then dreamed of dragons borne of air and destruction by fires not ever seen before. This to was fancy before it was reality. This book has classic book feel, it's medium weight well bound and makes you want to hold it. The writing is clear in appearnace and is easily understood. The chapters are short and to the point, so you don't get left hanging. For those that would like to indulge the notion that just perhaps, there is a chance that this may open up a realm of centuries past, it's a great book. For the younger more technologically demanding side of our generations, it would give opportunity to see how well they can flex the science within them. (The brain) This book is well illustrated with tantalizing images and earthly colours, thanks to Linda Garland's magick. Nevill Drury is not out to convince anyone of anything in writing this book, but he writes it well. Who knows perhaps he did'nt write it after all, he just dictated? I will look for more of his work, and Linda Garland. As for the spells within this book, and wether they work or not, time will tell, after all in time we will learn. I think this book would please most people who still have an imagination, not just an electronic work station.

Firt thing that I feel I need to say after reading some or the reviews here, this is NOT a book about making magic and casting spells. Do not let the title mislead you. This is fiction. The book is written as a diary, in first person, as if Merlin himself was telling his story. The narrative is fluid, splashed with ancient english words, the most famous wizard of all times tells his story. While it is very close to what we all know and love from Merlin, there are of course, some diferences from legend to legend. Besides being quite a quick and entertaining read, what truly makes this book shine are the ilustrations. If you love fantasy art this is for you. You will be transported by the drawings and paintings in this great book. Hard cover and thick, all color paper make this book a keeper for all fantasy lovers.

Enchanting Book,
This review is from: Merlin's Book of Magick and Enchantment (Hardcover)
I must say, I am Wiccan, and this is one of the best written, most beautifully illustrated books I have ever owned. Not to mention the spells that are in this book are forever and enchantingly some of the most powerful I have ever come across!

Despite the books beauty and wonderful artwork, the writing is horrible and extremely boring. It even manages to screw up the legend of King Arthur.

This is an interesting Merlin book; well written in the first person; lots of information; the quality of the book is very good; makes a great gift and/or collector's item for anyone delving into the mystique and legend of a great ancient wizard!

Pretty good, for what it is,
By S. parker "Ian Corrigan" (Madison, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)

This is not a novel or, really, a work of 'fiction'. Though it is written as though from Merlin's point of view, it is a basic retelling of some of the Merlin stories, followed by introductory material on basic modern occultism and magic. For those looking for a gentle introduction to magic for young readers - maybe for kids hooked on Harry - this is one of the best available. The author is a recognized author on magical and Pagan topics, and gives reliable basic info and methods.
