This shoe feels wider than Merrell's Tough Glove, which for me is great! Always felt the Tough/ Trail Glove design was too narrow. Noticed the difference right away. Feels MUCH more natural on the foot. Another noticable difference is the feel of the new sole design. Glad to see the Vibram soles still being used - however this design feels like it could be thicker than that of the Tough Glove or Trail Glove. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something to get used to, they are definitely not slippery, nice and grippy, although the bottom of the toe box isn't as cleated as that of the Trail Glove. Seems like a good type tread for everyday wear! Personally i like the fit of this shoe much more than the Tough Glove. I got the black version; it's a very handsome shoe. Reminds me a bit of the classic Docksider type shoe, with a wider toe box of course. Nice looking, i got them so i'd have a professional looking leather barefoot shoe to wear to work. They definitely fit the bill and work well in a dressier environment. Super comfortable, although out of all my barefoot shoes (Vibram Trek LS, Bikila LS & Flow & Merrells)these probably have the closest thing to arch support. Again not necessarily a bad thing, just something different to get used to. The inside of the shoe is nice feeling if you wear them barefoot. After wearing them for a full work day i could feel some seams, but it wasn't that noticeable. If you're getting them for a professional or casual work environment you'll be wearing socks with them anyhow. Awesome shoe, i'll probably get one of the brown versions also.

I'm on my third pair of these shoes, so it's safe to say I like them quite a bit. However, life expectancy on the laces is about 2 weeks. At best. You can always tell when the people in charge don't use the product. If they did, the laces would change immediately. So you buy the shoes and plan on replacing the laces in about two weeks. Finding the right laces is tough and that's annoying.

Love these shoes. I have a broad foot and was worried about the fit. They were just a bit tight at first, but stretched slightly to fit. Now I can't even feel them on my feet. It's like I'm walking barefoot but on a cushion of air. I should buy another pair. They work with jeans, casual slacks and summer shorts. They would make great lightweight, all day walking shoes for travel.

Love the shoe. My to shoe for summer wear. Was extremely surprised that within the first week a shoelace snapped - with no excess effort, but definitely a weak spot. Emailed Customer Service and got The answer "we no longer provide laces for all of our footwear" and gave me web links where I could buy them by the dozen or pay rather high shipping charges. Really disappointed in the poor quality of an integral element and the "so what" response from them. Also learned that they are part of a larger company that owns a few other brands that seem to be declining in quality. Going to more cautious buying Merrells in the future.

Update - After posting the original review I gave a rather pithy repy to the Customer Service email. Got an overnight reply saying she'd check around and see if she could find a pair. She did and mailed them. Received them the next day. Though they were of a lighter color and shorter than the originals, they work. Appreciated the coerced follow up and response enough to upgrade the rating to four (4) stars. Still thrilled with the shoes but somewhat disappointed with the quality and response.

I just ordered a half size down and it was perfect! Enough room for socks but also barefoot if you want.

First, while phenomenally comfortable, they are attractive. After my first pair, I only saw brightly hued athletic shoe designs on Merrell's website and worried that they were discontinued.
That being said, Merrell Barefoot shoes are the first I have ever had actually fit the arch of my foot.
Professionally, I estimate repairs to roofs on older homes, predominately slate, and these shoes allow me to comfortably & safely walk across slate roofs. The Vibram soles grip wonderfully and the shoe flexes with my foot on ridges and in valleys. I am able to focus on more than keeping my balance and not slipping on the roof thanks to the brilliant design of these shoes.
Then, their comfort keeps them on my feet the rest of the day as well.
Merrell , PLEASE keep making these shoes ! Maurice Franck

Why Merrell sells these and discontinues the tough glove still leaves me scratching my head.
The good, comfortable, and since you can't buy a tough glove it is similar in feel.
The bad. it will leak through the string binding. The string binding will not last, a quick fix can be needle and thread. Restringing will be hard as there is a lining and the work needs to start from the inside of the shoe. The cloth shoelace will go at the same time as the binding string. I can't understand all the good reviews, this shoe cannot hold up to daily use.
Please bring back a shoe like the tough glove. I would buy those for the rest of my life. This pair, one is enough, bought a pair of patagonia leather shoes to hold me over till i can find a replacement, but i'm still looking.
