I bought the brown and they look excellent with a pair of khakis, cargos or blue jeans. They avoid the inevitable stares of the toe-shoes and meet most business-casual dress codes. I wear them for business travel and for light & fast trail hikes.
The sole is a tough Vibram wedge that narrows through the mid-foot, requiring your arches and their supporting muscles to work. The near zero-drop design will also give your calves/Achilles a workout if you're used to a cushioned sole, so be forewarned.
The leather is tough but supple and the lace eyelet placement allows you to tighten things up so it fits like a glove, hence its name.
After a good month or two of wearing these for my primary daytime shoe, both in town and on the trails, I have to say I'm pleased. They make the transition seamless between work and recreation.
I have to say, I think the mesh variations would be better if you're looking primarily for a running shoe, but these have done well enough on a few short trail runs.
Sizing was true for a 9.5 and comfortable enough for someone who requires a wide toe-box.
I read as many reviews as I could about these shoes, but,at the end of the day it's about ONE shoe trying to fit a MILLION different feet isn't it?
Putting aside all the petty little personal dislikes I gleaned out of the reviews,I decided to take the plunge and buy a pair(same size as another pair of OffRoad Merrell's I have),as there were none to try on in Adelaide stores.
Delivery was fast -impressive! As far as a shoe is concerned, it fit's like a glove(For MY feet at least).
It only took a little while to get used to the difference between my "normal everyday wear-to-work shoes",but it wasn't long before it felt I no shoes on at all. Light, supple, soft and quiet to walk in.
The closest thing to wearing no shoes at all......now,if only I can find clothes that feel the same way!
Well,for me at least,and that's all that matters really. Selfish, aren't I?
Mind you, they're only for casual/work wear.I can't see myself Bush-Bashing in these,as I'm an offroad hiker, not a runner/jogger.Walking over really rough stuff would be a test though in these,as you can REALLY feel the surface you're treading.
Minimalist?Sure,why not?..Comfy?Hell yeah...Stylish?I'm 60,feeling 40,wishing I was 30,at least the shoes look good!...Longevity(wear&tear)Dunno,could be my funeral shoes for all I know?
Mmmm,I like them....a lot. Laces have been replaced with longer ones though(personal pref. only).
I've owned these shoes for a year and a half now and worn them just about everyday. I wear them to work, walking the dog daily, and outdoor farm chores. I only run in them occasionally. Overall I've really loved these shoes, well I think I love the barefoot style of shoes, but this shoe has some problems that will make me look for another brand/model for a replacement.
The barefoot style of no padding or arch support is perfect. It really strengthens your feet and helps to correct gait. My feet are strong now and I can run several miles and the only thing that's "wrong" is that I'm out of breath.
Durability. Probably why Merrell discontinued this shoe. The rear loop that you hold onto to slide your foot in the shoe tore off about a year in, and the leather near my left rear toe ripped apart at the stitching. It was a solid stitch job, but the leather was just too weak and failed. Also in that same area the sole is just starting to come apart from the rest of the shoe. I think it's only a matter of time before it separates. The soles themselves are worn down at the balls of my feet to almost a flat surface. That really sucks when there is some oil on a smooth concrete floor.
Smell / gunk when sockless. This is probably more of an issue with wearing shoes without socks. The shoes smell bad after a month or two and this black gunk gets in there which is hard to clean out. It's similar to the stuff you get on keyboard keys, left mouse button or mouse pads. Probably a combination of sweat and dirt that hardens into a smelly mass. The best part is when the shoes get slightly wet, the inside turns to SLIME!Read more ›

Good shoe. Well made but take it easy when switching from traditional sneakers to zero-lift barefoot shoes. I didn't and really injured myself.Published on January 7, 2013 by Derek

I love the comfort of wearing these without socks. Unfortunately the material they are made from cause foot odor. They are very light weight & do fit like a glove.Published on December 10, 2012 by Skinner
