I have looked for over a year for a hiking shoe that is great as a day hiker and a day shoe while traveling. This shoe is comfortable right out of the box. I have tried and was unhappy with the Moab ventillator (uncomfortable heel cup and not durable at all; the uppers were ripped after 1 day of scrambling on rocks in Montana ) as well as the North Face Hedgehog 3 (poor design and very uncomfortable upper shoe strapping and material). Both of those shoes were highly rated.

The allout blaze is flexible but supportive. The toe box is nice and wide. The upper material is flexible and supple with no hot spots. The shoe is comfortable with no break in period. When walking downhill , toes do not jam into the toe box. Traction is great. Overall an outstanding day hiker and casual shoe. My Merrell Mid hiking boots will still be my go to boots for backpacking but who needs full boots for casual hiking, walking, and traveling?

This is a shoe that you can wear around town, do some light hiking, some light trail running, with enough water resistance to walk through dew covered grass without getting your feet wet. This shoe does a lot of things pretty well. Amazon describes it as a hiking shoe, but it feels more like a light weight trail running shoe than like a boot.

Pros: Comfortable enough to wear all day. Can be used as a trail runner... be aware that it has a low heel-toe drop, so it is meant for a mid-foot striking running style. Very light weight. Water resistant. Decent grip on uneven terrain.

Cons: Most of the upper is actually covered with rubber, which makes it water resistant, but decreases ventilation. Not meant to be a serious hiking boot. They are low-top shoes, so they give no ankle support, and let more dirt and debris into the shoe than a high-top hiking boot.

I tried wearing the Moab but they were very uncomfortable for me. I have a narrow heel and somewhat wide forefoot. The Moab seems to have a narrow toe box (in addition to being bulky, hot and heavy - I was much better off just wearing my boots). I tried the Allout Blaze as an alternative and it is exactly what I was looking for in a light hiker. I'm a runner and like lightweight shoes with a lower drop. The Allout Blaze is basically that type of running shoe made to look more like a pair of Merrells. The Allout Blaze is very light, flexible and look pretty good for light hikers. Just be warned, the lining style prevents me from getting a superfeet insole or my orthotics in there. Despite that, the Allout Blaze is actually more comfortable for me walking around and on short hikes than my running shoes - with orthotics. Good stuff!

These are really the first hiking shoe I have ever bought so you can't really take my review to hart but with that said. I only buy the best and research the hell out of something before I buy this. I tried on a ton of hiking shoes before finding these and let me tell you that you won't find a more comfortable, light weight shoe that disappears on your feet. What makes these unique that I enjoy is that the paring is not from the insole but from the bottom up. The base of the shoe is a soft rubber that cushions your feet like no other. I'm a huge Nike fan and free run shoe lover to the extreme. I'm an inventory manager and shipper and am on my feet from the time I walk in to the time I leave. And I would recommend anyone doing the same to wear these instead of a running shoe or walking shoe these shoes disappear on your feet and from someone that is on their feet day in and day out. That is something you are looking for. The waterproof leather stands the tests and the support on your feet climbing around on things and hiking are substantial (nothing like a high top of course) but is great hiking shoe. The heel fits perfect with a wider toe pocket that allows for the balls of your feet to breath and compress and contract with restriction. I wear these as a daily shoe as well and would also recommend that as well for people. I keep saying it but it's a great shoe for daily use to the extended hike. Well worth the cost

Comfortable shoe for sure but soles a little too soft for my liking. They have a huge comfortable toe box. Love this aspect of these shoes. Your toes will not be cramped in these unless you are a distant genetic relative of a Yeti or are of the Sasquatch blood line. The soft sole makes walking a little more of a chore than I prefer so have relegated these to around town duty vs a trail shoe as I had hoped these would be. Wish they had a nice stiff vibram trail sole but I think merrell has these positioned as a step up from the barefoot looking toe shoes in their line and a step below an actual hardcore trail shoe.

    Love the shoe

Sometimes I wear an 8.5 sometimes a 9. I errd on the side of going large with these and ordered the 9. The 8.5 would have been a better fit but I chose to keep the 9 as I sometimes wear bulky socks when hiking.

The shoe is defintely not a heavy hiking boot. It's much more of a trail runner with a deep tread. The shoe is super comfortable, has a great sole.

I'm very happy with this shoe.
