4.0 out of 5 stars Genie Toes?, August 23, 2009

I purchased these for my boyfriend because he loves Merrells, and was wearing his heavy winter weight ones this summer. These are comfortable and fit him great and are lightweight and breathable. His only complaint is that the toes curve up a bit in the front. I am hoping that they flatten out as he wears them more...

5.0 out of 5 stars My husband LOVES these shoes, August 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My husband wears these shoes daily to work and loves them. They were a replacement for another Merrell Hex Shoe that he wore out with so much use. He loves the ease of sliding the shoes on, and they look good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Walking/Hiking Show Ever Owned, January 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
On a whim, I tried these shoes at a store, but found a less expensive price on Amazon (thank you, iPhone app...). I typically wear them as I commute to and from work via subway and walking city blocks. They always remain dry in rain and through snow drifts. The shoes "broke in" within two or three wearings, but the sole remains full and springy (i.e., like new) after two months of daily wear. The trends are thick and have extreme grip and bite. Basically, they are tennis shoes on steriods. I plan to buy a second pair if/when they go on sale.

The shoes have seen some trail work, but limited to day hikes. I would NOT use the Merrell Chameleons with a pack on overnight or multi-day hikes. I perfer more ankle support, but that's a personal preference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable yet responsive hiking shoes, July 2, 2008
I ordered these shoes mainly for light hiking and walking with my dog. They work great for these purposes but are also great for everyday use because they just slip right on and off and my wife says they are stylish enough to wear around town. Bungee cord has ability to get very tight for true hiking purposes. Tread is great while wet or dry. I would recommend using a waterproofing spray like kiwi camp dry to give them additional water resistance and to protect your investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best shoe I have ever owned, April 17, 2011

I own 11 pairs of Merrell shoes. 4 pairs which are Chameleons. 3 pair are the Chameleon Stretch which I like very much, but the the Chameleon Hex is the best shoe I have ever owned.

That my friends is the good news. The bad news is Merrell in it's infinite wisdom has decided to stop making the Hex apparently 6 or more months ago, though it continues to make the Stretch. I visited the Wolverine (they make the shoe) outlet store in Rockford Michigan with the hopes I could find another pair or more. No luck.

What makes the Hex superior is the outstanding elasticity of the inner shoe. It really should have been named the Chameleon Stretch as it is considerably more flexible. Who knows.......maybe Wolverine will change their mind and reintroduce it. I have found a few pair of various colors online and even even ordered one pair from as far away as Greece.

Comfortable and soft, but they kind of look like something Spiderman would wear, with all the webbing all over it.
