Thank you for your feedback.
Perfect fit, fits as it should, size markings are accurate, water proof, comfortable, attractive, durable.
Because they last, have a great fit and wear very well.
The fit is perfect, but I expected that because this is my 3rd pair of Moab hiking shoes.

This dismal pair of Moab is my 12th pair of Merrell low-cut hikers. I have been wearing them mostly every day since around 1998.

My previous pairs, Chameleon XCR, were Gore Tex. Great shoes, and lasted almost two years per pair with everyday use. I bought three pairs of them on sale, and I just started wearing the third and last. Since Chameleon has been end-of-lifed, I needed to find a replacement. Moab is the closest thing currently on offer from Merrell.

The Moab used to have a Gore Tex bathtub for waterproofing, as well as a water-resistant leather upper. I made the foolish mistake of thinking these would have a Gore Tex lining, as I had seen in stores up until recently, and as shown by the badge in the product photos. The pair I received are not the Gore Tex version.

What has happened is Merrell has decided to "increase profits" by replacing Gore Tex with some other undisclosed "waterproof" material that has a lower (or no) licensing cost. Thus the "Waterproof" badge on these, not a Gore Tex badge. Sneakily, Merrell hasn't changed the name of the shoe, or the appearance. This is a dirty trick at best as far as I'm concerned. At worst, "bait and switch" if you are a long-time Merrell XCR customer like me.

If you have had bad experiences with Gore Tex imitations like I have, the last thing you want is to pay top dollar for a product you use every day that relies on one. And that is exactly what Merrell has decided it has to force on us. Don't get me started on North Face's HyVent, the worst offender I have encountered in this category. Nothing is as breathable and simultaneously waterproof while durable as Gore Tex. Most of the time, Gore Tex alternatives flake off the host material (usually nylon) shortly after they see regular use.

Absolute garbage. Feet were soaked on the first day from walking through wet grass on client's properties (I own a property management company). The sole has almost completely detached from the shoe in the front after less than 3 months. I used contact cement to hold them together but it was a lousy patch job at best. After 6 months of OCCASIONAL wear (two days a week) they are falling apart. I owned a pair of Merrells a few years ago that were both ACTUALLY waterproof and great, but these are one of the worst purchases I have made in years. Over $100 for 6 months of light usage before they are garbage? No thanks.

If you need a shoe that will do more than walk on paved paths, look at Keen, Salomon, or Asolo. Honestly, Wal-mart boots may be better than these at 1/3 the cost.

I've had Merrells before, both waterproof and not. These shoe are waterproof and have a nice look and fit, but they are hotter than Hades !! Can't stand to wear the damn things unless I going out in the cold for awhile !!

    MERRELL MOAB WATERPROOF --
*WATERPROOF RATING = LESS THAN ZERO. The spongy sole soaks up water from moderate rain on a flat concrete sidewalk, and actually applies the accumulated water to your foot. It is worse than a plain old sneaker.
Apparently, the purportedly "waterproof" liner sock is not seam sealed, and immediately leaks upon any exposure to water, but does a great job at retaining all the moisture and sweat from your feet. Merrell's feeble effort to compensate with an odor elimination insole is ridiculous. Shoes stank from day one.
    * SUPPORT = LESS THAN ZERO. Liner sock is quite slippery against the shoe, causing the foot to easily shift and slide. After the liner sock has leaked like a sieve and your feet are all wet, the liner sock sticks and pulls out of the shoe (see photo). Unless laced up so tight that circulation is cut off to the foot, this shoe provides less lateral, medial, and arch support than a pair of open sandals in which the foot maintains some degree of friction with the sole. The sole is soft rubber, same as a cheap sneaker, and provides absolutely no support on rocks. Expect the soles of your feet to get bruised on any serious hike over rough terrain or graveled trail.
*DURABILITY = LOW. When I called and complained to Merrell, they said that the shoe was designed only for a few hikes. That is a totally unacceptable cost per hike. I might as well hire a Sherpa. Compare to my old Raichle Motagnas with a stiff sole and full ankle support, which lasted 25 years.
*FASHION = EXCELLENT. If you want to merely look like a cool outdoorsy eco-fitness person, who only wears the MOABs when walking in a dry parking lot at the office or shopping mall, then these are the shoes for you!

These shoes appeared to be great for the first 2 weeks or so. Then began to tear and leak at the toes. For this much money - they are NOT worth it!

I've had the Moabs for about three months now, and i couldn't be happier. I've been hiking with them around Boulder, CO and so far they've held up great. They seem to breathe pretty well, and they resit water as advertised. I'm most happy with how light and comfortable they are. I would suggest ordering a half-size up from what you'd normally wear since they run a bit small.

I bought these shoes to play disc golf and the soles are coming loose from the shoes at the toes on both shoes. They also have holes in them that now seep water in and the lining is ripping in the inside as well.

These shoes should have lasted a lot longer for the price and I heard good things about them otherwise.
