After reading reviews from other people, I took the chance and got these even though they were technically water shoes.
Have had the 2 weeks and think they are going to be all time favorites.
I was worried it might rub against my ankles in the water and become uncomfortable but not so.

Description of product completely leaves out the fact that the soles of the shoes come with drainage holes. This water shoes leaves out that it will keep water out of the sides/top but completely let water in through the sole. All Merrell barefoot shoes can be worn in water and machine washed. Upon reading the description for this product I figured it was meant to keep water out given the waterproof upper part of the shoe. I have another pair that I use daily in the spring/summer, especially for hiking where I have to cross streams and they're fantastic. Those have held up great to abuse and washing. I got these to use in fall/winter due to the description of having a waterproof upper figuring that the soles would also be like regular shoes and not have holes. It'd be nice to have a pair of shoes that I can use in colder temperatures that will keep water and mud out without being bulky like traditional hiking shoes. Had the description of these shoes been complete I would not have purchased them. Unfortunately I wore them before I realized the holes were in the soles and can no longer return them (the drainage holes are not incredibly noticable). Now I have two pairs of shoes for spring/summer and still without for winter. The shoes are very comfortable. However, product is not accurately represented in the description on amazon or Merrell's product website hence the three star rating.

I've recently started kayaking and was looking for a good non-flip flop shoe to wear while paddling. I wanted something sporty and not "granola-looking" and these really seemed to fit the bill. I purchased the Ash/Aqua color in a 5.5. In regular sneakers I'm usually a size 6 with socks, and in heels or flats I'm a 5 or 5.5 so I decided to err on the smaller side since I planned to wear them sock-less. This was way too much thinking but I really wanted these exact shoes and no local stores carried them in stock.

The shoes came pretty promptly. The color is true to the photos online. If you didn't notice though, where the back strap is, the material is like a nude stretchy fabric that doesn't quite match the gray cutouts on the top. It doesn't bother me but just FYI. I was so disappointed when the tops of my toes hit the front end of the shoe. I had to basically keep my toes scrunched up the whole time.

So I tried to wear them in the river once to see if they'd stretch out or if I could learn to live with the tight toes, but it just wasn't going to work out. I purchased a size 6 to compare the two in fit and comfort. When the new shoes came, they were TOO BIG!!! The size difference between the 5.5 and the 6 looked to me like way more than half a size. I looked up a new shoelace pattern to tie them tighter and that helped enough to keep them on. I wish the back straps actually did more to that end, but they honestly seem to be mostly decorative.

I've worn my shoes on two kayak trips so far and they have worked out great. They don't dry miraculously fast or anything, but they are comfortable and stay on my feet. I'm looking forward to wearing them on a hiking + paddling trip, to see how they do then. But for now, they are definitely my go-to shoes for river field trips!

P.S. I also bought the Keens Venice H2 (in a size 6) and I love them. It remains to be seen which of the two I end up gravitating to over time.

I started buying Merrell barefoot shoes after I had an operation on my foot. They were wonderful. All the pain that remained in my foot after the surgery disappeared within two weeks of starting to wear them. The shoes were much more helpful than my foot doctor who prescribed a lotion for the pain and suggested arch support.

However, I am very dissatisfied with this pair of shoes. Although they fit well and are very comfortable, there are holes in the soles that allow water to soak your feet when you walk on concrete in a slight drizzle. I just spent the entire day teaching with water-soaked socks and wet cold feet. When I got home I immediately checked the description of the shoes. The shoes have waterproof uppers. Nothing is mentioned about the not-at-all waterproof soles. I don't know why it matters if the upper part of the shoes stays dry if the soles let water flood in. I already owned a pair of Merrell's river shoes to use in the river we live near. I guess I now own 2 pairs for the few times I wade in the river. I'm not at all happy that these shoes were not described accurately on this page and I'm now stuck with an expensive pair of useless shoes.

I"ve worn and loved Merrells for a long time. They just seem to fit my feet the best..Great comfort, too. Over the last year have been wearing my new favorites, any of the Barefoot running shoes. There are 4 pr. on my shelf right now, and one pr. on my feet. I saw the Swift Glove and liked the description about keeping your feet dry. I ordered my regular size ( 7 US.) which all Merrells have fit in the past...What a surprise...The Swift was still roomy in the toe box, but definitely more narrow in width, and not quite too short for my toes in walking. They just aren't as comfortable, and roomy as all my others, so this will be returned. It didn't take but 5 minutes to tell the difference.

These water shoes are super cute and super comfy. I wear them camping and to the river all summer long. With these shoes I can jump out of the boat into the water, and then take a hike on land. I have never experienced any blisters or sores from prolonged wear of these shoes and they do stay comfortable. The only drawback is that they are moist inside. So after wearing them for a while my feet get pruned up and sometimes peely. I would just recommend taking them off at frequent intervals to let your feet breath.
