4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
This was a replacement for one I bought 15 years ago. At first, I wasn't too thrilled with it, but as I started using the crossword puzzler, I found it easier to navigate. The keypad is larger, and if I don't know the definition of a word in the puzzle, I can get easily by hitting the dictionary button.Merriam-Webster CWP-570 Crossword Puzzle Dictionary

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the shipping charge
This model is so limited as to be useless in working with crossword puzzles beyond very simple ones. For example, if you put in the following: pest?cide, it tells you that it can't find anything. Pesticide is not an unusual word. I have owned other Franklin dictionaries and none were as limited as this one. Franklin's customer service says it is working correctly...

David in customer service for Franklin said that he could recommend others, but this one is just limited.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor design, May 29, 2009

For crossword use there are too many other functions, resulting in extra operations. Also, it is incomplete. It would not yield the word "eighteen" with four letters entered.

This crossword puzzle solver is a joke and just a badly designed item.

It no way lives up to the advertised features and is not user friendly and I was disappointed after giving it a real world test.

My wife was ready to kill me for ordering it after she tried it.

My old Franklin CWP-206 is a superior product...sorry to say it's now out of production.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality display, November 7, 2009

The poor text quality of the display makes it hard to read.

It lies too flat on the desk - needs a raised surface to make it easier to read.

Why can't Franklin get it right?

I had a Franklin crossword puzzle solver for many years. When it stopped working I went on-line to purchase another one. They no longer make that model. I would've liked to see how this one worked prior to purchasing it. If I had, I wouldn't have bought it. It's awkward to operate as the buttons are small and not grouped conveniently. Also, the screen is difficult to read with a back light on the words. You can only view three or four words and then you have to wait for the next group to upload. Don't know why they just didn't stay with the old model. It was much smaller, easier to read and faster.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just awful, February 3, 2010
This review is from: Merriam-Webster CWP-570 Crossword Puzzle Dictionary (Office Product)
The trouble with this gadget is that it doesn't know any words. This is Merriam-Webster's dictionary? Ever hear of "accrete" or "heartiness"? Apparently they didn't. Want to find some anagrams? Only three extra keystrokes to get to the right place. Bad user interface, lousy display, limited word set. It's even hard to open. Why waste your money?

Previously owned the Franklin CW-40 Crosswords Puzzle Solver with which I was very happy. Unfortunately a drop to the floor led to its demise. Finally decided to order the Franklin CWP-570 Crossword Puzzle Dictionary. Unfortunately I find it difficult to use and extremely difficult to read. It is not near as fast or as helpful as the simple CW-40 was. Definitely not worth the expense.

I have had a few devices like this from Franklin, but recently my old Franklin machine died. So, I purchased this model since it's the only affordable moel out there (no matter what manufacturer you choose). The screen is dark even when you advance screen setting to the highest brightness it has. The jumble feature kicks you back to the begining everytime the machine processesa jumble. Then you have to navigate through the menus to get back to the jumble area and start agains for the nexr jumble help you need. Finally, Franklin as very corse when I inquired about this product and how to get the screen brighter. Oh well, I'm praying there is a different model made soon so I can trade up!!! Thank you!!

I purchased this replace my CWP-206 Crossword Puzzle Solver. It has many great features, but the one thing it cannot do is give answers for jumble for less letters than are typed it. I am disappointed in that feature.
