Book Description

Little Merrie Callahan is all grown up now.
She doesn't believe in Santa anymore.
But she still has an ax to grind with the man in the red suit.

And, for FBI Special Agent Constance Mandalay, the holidays just went to hell...

MERRIE AXEMAS is a thriller novella with a creepy supernatural twist, straight from the warped mind of M. R. Sellars, author of the award-winning Rowan Gant Investigations series of paranormal and occult thrillers. Although set during the Christmas holiday season, it is an enthralling read at any time of year.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This is an excellent story, and I highly recommend it." - Mike Gleason, Syndicated Reviewer

PRAISE FOR M. R. SELLARS AND IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER:

"I am in awe of M.R. Sellars. This is a riveting read..." - A Book Vacation

"A superbly creepy supernatural thriller...reads like old-school M. Night Shyamalan with a dash of John Connolly police procedural. Good stuff!" - J. T. Ellison, Author of the Taylor Jackson Novels

From the Inside Flap

SPECIAL NOTE:

MERRIE AXEMAS: A Killer Holiday Tale was originally written and distributed as a free gift during the 2010 Christmas season to long time fans of M. R. Sellars' RGI novels. However, soon after its release, readers were clamoring for more of Special Agent Constance Mandalay, as well as more of the "Merrie Axemas story." Therefore, the full-length novel, IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER was born (released November 2011) and officially launched the new Special Agent Constance Mandalay Novels thriller series.

In effect, MERRIE AXEMAS is both a stand-alone novella, and a bone-chilling sample cut straight from the heart of the novel IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER. It launches you into Special Agent Constance Mandalay's world, brings you to the edge, and then taunts you with the same unanswered questions that plague her. Finally, it presents you with a spoiler-free alternate ending to that of the full-length novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another hit out of the park ! December 20, 2010
By L. Rowe
Format:Kindle Edition
As a "serial" reader I found M.R. Sellars Rowan Gant series a few years ago and quickly read all 10 books. So when this novella came out last week I just had to give it a read. What a fun read ! Quick and "light" this story sheds some light on a little less known character - FBI Special Agent Constance Mandelay. And if you haven't read the Gant series, this is a great place to start. Sellars writing style is unlike I've ever seen before. It catapults you into the story and holds you until the very end.

Highly, highly recommended for a good, fast read on a Saturday afternoon, or something fun to take with you to work for breaktime--or any time else you want a well-written, entertaining read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to M.R. Sellars January 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
M.R. Sellars is one of my favorite authors and this novella does not disappoint. Constance is a character from the Rowan Gant novels and I really like having a story that is just hers. You'll love everything by this author, but this free novella is great place to start.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Read! January 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
M.R. Sellars always delivers, and this riveting novella is no exception.

What first appealed to me about Sellars' works, and holds true in Merrie Axemas, is the way he beautifully walks the fine line between what is feasible given the right situation, and the supernatural world where our nightmares come to life and the hair on the back of our neck stands on end.

While I myself am not one to scare or spook easily, it's impossible not to becomed enthralled in this story as well as appreciate the creativity, originality, and attention to detail the author displays in his writting.

I will also be the first to admit that Merrie Axemas actually threw me for a bit of a loop. I am usually one to give away endings of stories to myself, guessing early on 'who done it?' I thought I'd done so at one point in this novella even. I should have known better however as this author has an almost uncanny talent for well written twists and turns that will leave you saying, "Ah hah! Of course! Why didn't I see that coming?" The answer to that question being brilliant writting and deep characters that pull you into the story.

I adore everything I've read of M.R. Sellars and this story is fantastic. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who enjoys a good mystery thriller. I have to warn those who've never read any of Sellars' works before though; you will be hooked!

1.0 out of 5 stars Axe M.R. Sellars January 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
M.R. Sellar's "Merrie Axemas," starring Special Agent Constance Mandalay, is one of the cheapest, most chickens*** displays of crass hucksterism I have ever experienced. I have read many of Mr. Sellar's Rowan Gant Investigations series and enjoy his plots and writing style. That's why when I saw this free e-book, I jumped at it. I thought, "How nice, Mr. Sellar's is giving something back to his loyal cash-spending customers."

Well nothing could be farther from the truth. This book is a gripping well-written mystery that suddenly ends with no finish. That is, it just leaves the reader suspended in air like the end of an episode of a multipart cliffhanger TV drama series. Then Sellars writes in afterword that after he released this book, he was swamped with e-mail from unhappy people left swinging in the wind who wanted an ending. Yes, one would expect that, and? And then he introduces his new "Special Agent Constance Mandalay" series of novels. Okay, fine, he puts a pitch for the new series in his free book, that's fair. I expected to turn the page and get the finish to this story. NO. Instead, Sellars has the audacity to tell his readers that if they want the conclusion to his "free" novella," they must buy the first book in the new series.

It strains my incredulity that so many readers, thus deceived, have given this deceitful author five stars! I don't know about the rest of you folks out there, but I don't cotton to these sorts of psychologically extortionate tactics. I will NEVER buy another M.R. Sellar's book. NEVER. Maybe his cheap stunt worked with some of his readers, but it certainly did not work with me. I don't like having my time wasted with this sort of trickery.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap Literary Trick! October 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Good thing this book from Amazon was free. If I had paid even one penny, I'd be pis.... Reminds me of the old Saturday afternoon serial matinee where "our hero" was about to be pushed off the cliff. The only way the viewer would know is to show up next Saturday to learn he escaped, but now was facing a "bad guy" with a gun. Next Saturday...
That's all this book is: leaves the reader "dangling" with this paranormal murder series. So, instead of answering the question, the author, Sellers, "directs" his readers to more of his books. He even describes himself as "a guy with alot of nightmares". They are probably guilt-induced.
Don't waste your time on this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Trust Santa.... January 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Already I am a longstanding fan of M. R. Sellars' and his Rowan Gant Investigation series. I was so excited to find that Special Agent Constance Mandalay was getting a tale of her own. I devored this. I did not stop until it was finished. Sellars uses such beautiful descriptions and brilliant tale weaving to bring the reader into the sleepy town of Hulis and the horror that unites a small town in the defence of an innocent girl they have all come to view as their own. Can Mandalay crack the case of the Christmas serial killer? Can she discover the secrets behind the Sherrif's uncanny Sherlockian perceptions? Questions will be answered, though more arise. There is definately a new meaning to 'Holiday Spirit' in this tale. I highly reccomend, but don't make any plans once you start, you'll want to finish it. And then....You'll want to get In the Bleak Midwinter to find out what happens next!!

Very effective short story that gets you to buy the novel that concludes the story of Constance and Merrie and I'm not complaining about that matter at all.

Where's the rest of the story? I'm just saying? Paranormal aside what was the trigger 8 years prior and why then? Good story as long as it lasted. Well written.

More About the Author

A member of the International Thriller Writers (ITW), M. R. Sellars is a relatively unassuming homebody who, in his own words, considers himself just a "guy with a lot of nightmares and a word processing program." Legend has it he started making up stories to entertain a stuffed bear during his single digit years, then began writing them down sometime around his early teens when the growing catalogue of fiction started causing him to experience migraines. Although he had several short stories and newspaper articles published during his early adult life, it wasn't until 2000 that his first full-length novel, Harm None: A Rowan Gant Investigation, hit bookstore shelves, officially launching the acclaimed paranormal thriller series.

Sellars says that the biggest adjustment he has had to make with his writing career is coping with the time spent away from his family while traveling on promotional tours. Still, he approaches the necessity of public appearances with the same humorously deadpan and satirical wit that he applies to life in general, stating, "As long as I have an RC Cola and a bag of peanuts, I'm all good, Bubba."

All of the current novels in Sellars' continuing Rowan Gant Investigations saga have spent several consecutive weeks on numerous bookstore bestseller lists as well as a consistent showing on the Amazon.com Horror/Occult top 100.

Sellars currently resides in the Midwest with his incomparably amazing wife, equally fantastic daughter, and a feline he describes as, "the competition." At home, when not writing or taking care of the household, he indulges his passions for cooking and hanging out with friends. In order to satisfy his lifelong dream of being a satirical humor columnist for a major metropolitan newspaper, twice each week he removes his glasses, dons blue tights and a red cape, then blogs about the incredibly bizarre world that is his life as a writer, husband, and father. It has been said that his blog articles sometimes blur the line between fiction and reality. To that Sellars responds, "What line?"

M. R. Sellars can be located on the web wherever there is a virtual bar serving virtual single malt Scotch, single barrel bourbon, good Irish whisky, and decent beer. In other words, look for him on the major social networking sites.
