5.0 out of 5 stars Next to TSO, this may be the BEST Hard Rock Christmas album out there!, February 12, 2010

This review is from: Merry Axemas - Guitar Christmas (Audio CD)
I originally discovered this CD several years ago after becoming familiar with Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO). I love the blend of hard rock with Christmas music and decided to search out other similar CDs. This particular CD is probably next in line to TSO as being the best out there, although I can't say that definitively as I have yet to hear everything that is available.

However, if you love guitar based rock music and Christmas music, you definitely can't go wrong here. There is not one bad song on this disc and the flow of the music from start to finish is well arranged. I don't find myself getting disinterested at any point. The songs by Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Joe Perry are the best in my mind but all the others are very good as well. Jeff Beck's version of Amazing Grace gives me goosebumps and Richie Sambora performing O Holy Night is another one that will elicit some emotion.

All together, this collection of songs is very underrated and deserves more attention from those seeking this type of music.

A great performance of traditional Christmas songs played by some of the worlds greatest guitar players. A must have CD to play alone with traditional Christmas CD's during the Holiday season!

This is a great CD. It takes the classic songs you know and puts a different spin on them. Great CD. Every song is a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have CD, December 25, 2011
This review is from: Merry Axemas - Guitar Christmas (Audio CD)
As others have stated here, you can't go wrong with this under-appreciated album. Eric Johnson's "The First Nowell" is simply stunning; the best arrangement of the song you will ever hear, period. It's a work of art. Steve Morse's "Joy to the World" is ALL guitar and is fantastic. Just.....get it.

Now I just wish Steve Vai would go back to the engineer's board and kick out a few more of these.

My only real regret is not hearing Gary Moore on either of the "Merry Axemas" CD's. He would have been unbelievable, God rest his soul.

If you love gutsy guitar and christmas carols, combine the two in a marriage and this is what you have on Merry Axemas. Thoroughly enjoyed the arrangements and play it often even though it is not Christmas

I bought this cd for my husband that plays guitar. He really likes it considering he doesn't like christmas music. It has a few of his favorite guitarists, so it was a great alternative.

A very nice holiday music cd. Some tracks are better than others but that is to be expected in any compilation. The price was certainly right.

If, like me, you are looking for a different take on Christmas songs, look here. Some great versions of songs you've a hundred times before. Gives me an opportunity to mix in some great guitar sounds with the traditional holiday stuff. Great guitar playing never goes out of season !
