Biography

Andy Williams is the American singer whose voice was described by Ronald Reagan as "a national treasure". His gold and platinum albums testify to his enduring appeal among a public who love a bit of crooning.

His career began as one of a quartet, The Williams Brothers, and they were successful enough to appear with Bing Crosby on the single "Swinging on a Star". By 1952 his brothers left the act… Read more in Amazon's Andy Williams Store

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Next to his classic Christmas Album, Merry Christmas is probably Andy Williams's best collection of holiday music. There are some repeat performers here as on other Williams Christmas releases--"Silver Bells," "The Bells of St. Mary's"--but there are also some surprises like "Little Altar Boys" and "Some Children See Him." Williams's voice is also at its finest with "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and "Mary's Little Boy Child." The enthusiasm with which he sings these songs, as well as "Let It Snow" and "Winter Wonderland," is probably one of the reasons that Williams's Christmas albums have always been so popular. It's obvious that when he's singing "My Favorite Things" or "Sleigh Ride" that he truly enjoys performing this music as much as people enjoy hearing it. --Steve Gdula

5.0 out of 5 stars The True Spirit Of Christmas, November 3, 2003
This review is from: Merry Christmas (Audio CD)
At first, I thought I was just being sentimental liking this album, as I grew up hearing the wonderful songs sung by Andy Williams. But as a musician myself, eventually I listened to the musicianship and performance, and it is nearly flawless.

Williams' choice of songs here are sometimes eclectic. Perhaps the biggest contrast I can think of is the gap between "Winter Wonderland" and "Little Altar Boy". The latter offers a dark look at a man begging for redemption during the holidays after living a life of sin. The altar boy's innocence offered hope to a man truly at a crossroads in his life.

While the song is a traditional Christmas number not written by Williams himself, the fact he chose it for inclusion indicates he was looking for *good songs* to perform. He didn't go the easy route with proven standards, and his voice and choice of instrumentation created a unique mood for each song.

I recommend this CD for anyone who wants to get in the Christmas spirit, or to complement those that already have it in them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas Classic, November 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Merry Christmas (Audio CD)
Andy Williams pours his heart and soul into this collection in a way that has never been captured so perfectly before or since--certainly not in his live performances or television specials. From popular tunes of the season to spiritually moving songs in the Christian tradition, Andy Williams "Merry Christmas" captures the Christmas spirit in music as Dicken's did in story. An absolute gem--in my opinion, the greatest Christmas album ever recorded.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best, December 5, 2001
This review is from: Merry Christmas (Audio CD)
Who can better Andy Williams when singing Christmas music? Maybe Nat King Cole. But no one sings these songs with more enthusiasm. Just saw Andy's Christmas show in Branson and it was first class. He sang most of the songs on this CD and many more. Andy made a nice Christmas memory for us when he invited all the children in the audience on stage for a Christmas sing along. My 4 little ones, all under the age of 8, got a chance to sing and talk with Andy. Andy is a warm and classy guy.
