4.0 out of 5 stars Rod Stewart Is Coming To Town October 30, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
I've been waiting for Rod Stewart to record a Christmas album for years. With a voice that's as warm as a cup of hot chocolate, I knew it would be terrific. Now that it's here, is it? For the most part, yes. Rod's in good voice, the arrangements are beautiful and there are a handful of special guests to keep things interesting.

David Foster produced this album, and it sounds great. That said, many of the arrangements - which are beautiful - are extremely mellow. Where the album really shines is the more upbeat tracks, such as "Merry Christmas, Baby" with Cee-Lo Green and "Red-Suited Super Man." These two songs allow Rod to let loose and show off his soulful side. I also liked how "Auld Lang Syne" featured bagpipes and "Silent Night" included a children's choir to liven things up.

Overall, this is an enjoyable Christmas album that features an interesting mix of songs and special guests. If you're a Rod Stewart fan looking for a great way to kick off the holiday season, you'll be pleased with Merry Christmas, Baby.

3.0 out of 5 stars About time, but was it really worth the wait? November 21, 2012
Format:Audio CD
After a whole bunch of cover albums (including 5(!) volumes of the American Songbook), I can only ask: "Rod, what took you so long?' But make no mistake, those cover sets were all very well produced, and this one continues the streak. The title track is a duet with C-Lo Green, which works well enough, even if 'Winter Wonderland ' with Michael Buble' does not. The Original song 'Red Suit Superman ' keeps the whole thing going at a good clip. Other notable guests include Trombone Shorty and Peter Erskine on drums. Rod may be a cover whore of late, but he remains the classy escort variety at least. Sadly, given such a guest list and Rod's talent, I think it still under achieves by a wide margin.

Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
So what if it takews Rod Stewart many many years before he releases a Christmas album? It was worth the wait! Saw him perform in Las vegas a few times, and I love this performer and his music....Rock, oldies or Christmas! Keep it coming, Rod!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST ADD to Your Holiday Collection October 30, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Rod's scratchy, throaty voice lends itself surprisingly well to Christmas music. The additions of Trombone Shorty (A MUST SEE IN PERSON!), Michael Buble, Chris Botti, Mary J. Blige, Cee-Lo Green, Dave Koz and Ella Fitzgerald (virtually) are true gifts for this holiday season. Be glad Rod has young children once again, because it drove him to release a Christmas CD. Thanks Rod and Happy Holidays!

5.0 out of 5 stars YEP, November 3, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Time for another Rod Stewart comeback! #1 on Amazon! Move over Susan Boyle and Josh Groban (who struck Platinum in previous years)! First it was The Great American Songbook, than last time out Soulbook (Rod singing soul classics). NOW, it's Christmastime, time to hear gravel voiced Rod cheer up the season and give us a new classic Christmas album! And many duets to even enhance this collection even more! You cannot go without buying this album. Any fans of Christmas music and good ol Rod Stewart fans MUST get this one! ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Christmas Music November 1, 2012
By Lilioki
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I love this CD. Yes, Rod is not singing rock music. Who cares! I especially love the duets with Ella Fitzgerald (What Are You Doing New Year's Eve) and Michael Buble (Winter Wonderland). This version of Silent Night is also very nice. I love how mellow this music is without losing the Christmas spirit. Lovely. If you get the CD you also get a free download from his upcoming Spring 2013 rock album. Try these songs, you will find yourself singing them in your head. That is the sign of a good song.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Christmas album, but Rod's still content to coast November 30, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Christmas albums are generally hit or miss affairs. So many different artists have turned in these Christmas projects, with generally mixed results. So how does Rod Stewart's first Christmas album hold up?

Fairly well, actually, as far as Christmas records go. As far as Rod Stewart albums, yet another cover record. For those looking for a rather inoffensive, by the numbers Christmas album, you would do well to purchase this record.

First off, I've never been a huge Stewart fan - I know the radio hits and have heard a few of his albums here and there. For those fans of "Maggie May", look elsewhere. You won't find that Stewart on this record. He's been MIA for years.

And for good reason. Since 2002, Rod Stewart has "reinvented" himself as a rather indistinguishable cocktail lounge singer, covering the "Great Song American Songbook", which as of 2012 there are five volumes and a live album. Stewart has also recorded a soul/Motown cover album and a rock cover album, for a total of SEVEN cover albums since 2002. Naturally, the rock cover album is the closest to the Rod of old. For a decade, Stewart has been coasting.

Although not officially part of the "American Songbook" series, "Merry Christmas, Baby" is very much an unofficial companion to that ongoing series. The music is mellow, never straying very far from the traditional arrangements we've all heard so many times over. There are the prerequisite duets - Mary J. Blidge joins Stewart on "We Three Kings" and C Low Green makes an appearance on "Merry Christmas, Baby". Even a Disney song shows up ("When You Wish Upon a Star"). Unfortunately, so does Michael Buble on the rather dismal "Winter Wonderland". Sorry, just not a Buble fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars good music for an old geizer
Liked this Christmas album. For an old guy he still has a quality and yet a "raspyness" in his voice that we have grown to appreciate.

1.0 out of 5 stars I gave it away
Some of Rod's albums are classic. On this one, his phrasing of the music is boring and his voice does not showcase songs that are otherwise traditional and beautiful.
