From Publishers Weekly

One of the all-time champion worriers returns in Merry Christmas, Stinky Face by Lisa McCourt, illus. by Cyd Moore. Here Stinky Face challenges his unflappable mother to come up with contingency plans for various possible emergencies: "What if Santa landed on our roof, and one of his reindeer got his antlers stuck in the tree that hangs over my bedroom window?" Ages 4-8.

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 1-In this fourth title about the habitual worrywart, the child is full of incessant questions about Christmas and Santa. What if one of the reindeer gets his antlers stuck in the trees? What if Santa's boots fall off? What if he gets chapped lips from all that flying? As in previous titles, the boy's mother reassures him with creative, exaggerated, and humorous solutions. In a satisfying ending, Santa is left a plate of cookies and a few emergency supplies that he might need. Moore's delightful watercolor cartoons are an integral part of the story's success. The pictures may be too small to carry for storytime, but work well for one-on-one sharing.-M. W.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bad title, good book, October 29, 2002
By
This review is from: Merry Christmas, Stinky Face (Hardcover)
Title aside, this is actually a rather sweet holiday picture book for young kids. While Mama decorates, a little girl (I think it's a girl) asks questions about the irrational worries she has - what if snow covers the door? What if the reindeer's antler gets stucik in the branches of the tree over my window? Etc. Mama responds with practical solutions to each of these fears, and eases the child's mind. This is an engaging idea for a picture book, as many children are apt to wonder odd things like this, and will appreciate the tone of comfort. Those who know better will find it all funny. The book is marred only by the completely unnecessary ending, where the mother says "Merry Christmas, my stinky face" to the child. Readers are apt to wonder why the mother uses this supposed term of affection, as it has never been introduced before - for some reason it is also used as the title of the book. But with some explanation, most kids will enjoy the rest of the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stinky Face every night, October 24, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Merry Christmas, Stinky Face (Hardcover)
Stinky Face is called Stinky because he's a super smelly skunk and everyone calls him Stinky Face. My Mom or Dad have to read these books to my brothers EVERY night. They never get tired of them.
