Editorial Reviews

Product Description

12 Years in the making...A collection of songs that celebrate the Holidays with thoughtful humor, brilliant musicianship, and just the right amount of sentimentality. This CD combines masterful songwriting with Nashville studio legends including Matt Rollings (Lyle Lovett, Emmy Lou Harris), Michael Rhodes (Rodney Crowell, Dixie Chicks), Eddie Bayers (Mark Knopfler, Sting), and Bobby Cochran (Steppenwolf, Flying Burrito Brothers, Bob Weir Band).

Antsy McClain may be the best writer in Nashville, and on this album he has crafted what I predict are some future Holiday classics. Antsy McClain is the most talented guy I've ever met. --Gary Smith (Producer known for working with Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton & Ricky Skaggs)

4.0 out of 5 stars Alt-Christmas treasure... December 26, 2008
Format:Audio CD
Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours' opening track Merry Christmas from the Trailer Park will make you want to leave your lights up all year just like they do in Pine View Heights.

A superb mix of alt-Christmas humor and traditional carols revisited, this album will move you to tears with the poignant nod to Antsy McClain's mother. Mary Lou's Christmas list cuts close to the bone for those of us who grew up in households limited in funds but not in love and imagination.

Frank the Christmas Turkey will make you gobble-gobble with laughter, and with a touch of big horn arrangements and blue suede shoes, the rockin' The King of Christmas proclaims "Santa Claus has left the building!"

My favorite track is the jazzy up-tempo tale of a holiday harlot: She's Underneath the Mistletoe Again. And The Elves Strike breaks through the materialism that pervades everyone's holiday season if they're not careful.

It ends with the best version of Auld Lang Syne (Revisited) that you'll ever hear by anybody, anywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Classic December 7, 2007
Format:Audio CD
I've bought several Christmas albums over the last few years, but none as wonderful as this one. I laughed, I cried, I was touched - and that's no joke. This album has everything from crazy songs like "She's Underneath the Mistletoe Again" to the most beautiful rendition of "I Heard the Bells" that I've ever had the privilege to listen to. Antsy McClain is known for his comic genius but he's also a brilliant vocalist with a voice so pure and perfect it brings tears to your eyes during some of these songs. "Auld Lang Syne Revisited" is the last track on the album and is definitely worth the wait - my new favorite. What a privilege to have found this album and this singer!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Christmas music that won't compel you to barf January 12, 2008
Format:Audio CD
As the Christmas season goes by, I get more and more tired of the seventeen versions of Jingle Bells I own. Ansty and the Troubadors did themselves proud with this album. A few new things and few that make me laugh out loud, and a couple of traditional carols thrown in for good measure. I can't wait for their next album!

Antsy McClain can write a song about anything. But he has out done himself this time. This is a wonderful christmas album, worthy of anyone's collection.
