Book Description

July 16, 2000
Merry-Go-Sorry is the bittersweet biography of internationally known environmental scientist and plutonium expert, Richard G. Cuddihy. A stroke at forty eight brought irrevocable changes to his life. He was a principal member of the NASA Safety Review Panel for the Galileo Space Mission and, because of his opposition to the use of plutonium aboard the shuttle, he was called the 'lone dissenter' on the panel by Time Magazine. This story intertwines his life as a stroke survivor and as an advocate for human life and the environment. "It is time the American people hear the true story and make their voices heard." All this is written by a courageous man who has aphasia and still makes his voice heard. His gentle heart in dealing with other stroke survivors is noteworthy.

This review is from: Merry-Go-Sorry : A Memoir of Joy and Sadness (Paperback)
Merry-Go-Sorry is the bittersweet biography of internationally known scientist and stroke survivor, Richard G. Cuddihy. A devastating stroke at 48 left him with paralysis and aphasia. It interrupted his career as a research scientist involved with environmental concerns of cigarette smoking, diesel exhaust, hazardous waste materials, the Rocky Flats land contamination, Chernobyl, and his latest efforts regarding the use of plutonium aboard space shuttles.

Dr. Cuddihy was the only member of NASA's Nuclear Safety Panel who did not agree with the Panel's approval of plutonium aboard the Galileo Space Shuttle in 1989. Time Magazine and the Wall Street Journal called him the "lone dissenter." When his stroke left him unable to speak, Dr. Cuddihy was determined to make his voice heard. He wrote to President George Bush who ordered a meeting in Albuquerque, NM to hear his concerns. Read this book and learn what happened!

This story, which intertwines his life as a stroke survivor and as a plutonium expert and advocate for human life and the environment, is not to be missed. Every person on this planet and for generations to come will be affected in some way if there is a nuclear accident. The American people must speak and make their voices heard regarding plutonium! Stroke survivors and caregivers will also see how the tragedy of a stroke can become a true gift in disguise.
