Book Description

Franny Martin is an Oklahoma farm girl who’s preparing to spend the holidays alone… again. Then Charlie Landau shows up one day, all wealth and polish, and offers to buy Franny’s farm. Franny has no money to speak of, but she is clever and spirited, and she’s more than happy to sell the farm and move to the city. As Sinatra croons from the radio and Christmas descends upon her charming farm, Franny teaches Charlie the curious and sometimes comical ways of country life. In the process, they unearth some discoveries of the heart—that sometimes love comes when you're least ready for it. Will the holidays bring their most impossible dreams within reach?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Holiday Cozy, Indeed! October 21, 2012
By JE
Format:Hardcover
Sigh....

That's the first response I have after reading A Merry Little Christmas.

A sigh for the end of a perfect love story...
a sigh for mended relationships, for justice and for living your dreams...
and finally, a sigh that I blew through this book too fast and now I have to wait until Anita Higman dreams up another fantastic book for me to read!

The back cover of this book says that it's "a cozy holiday read" and that's just how I feel, cozy and content. If you're looking for the perfect Christmas gift for your reading friends, you can't go wrong with A Merry Little Christmas.

The characters are lovable and laughable and I would love to have folks like them for my neighbors and friends. The author even makes shoveling hog manure sound like a most honorable activity!

Join Franny Martin, an adorable and feisty farm girl and Charlie Landau, a handsome and wealthy city boy as they fall in love and overcome all obstacles to be together.

And Ms. Higman...please, please get busy on that next best-seller!

Pick up your copy of A Merry Little Christmas and don't forget to pick up a few for your friends!

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart-warming November 3, 2012
Format:Hardcover
What a magical book to start the holiday reading season with! A beautifully bound book with a lovely illustration gracing it's cover instantly caught my attention. I really like the bow - I knew I was in for a treat. Two people from different worlds who learn a bit about themselves and something from one another in this Christian romance that will as warming and soothing as a hot cup of cocoa. I was captivated with these two souls and thought that Higman did an excellent job of depicting where they are from, but focusing on the present. A great book to read this holiday season, but really, all year round.

5.0 out of 5 stars a Christmas story to inspire the season October 8, 2012
Format:Hardcover
I very much enjoyed reading this wonderful story about Christmas and how these characters come together from diverse backgrounds and having what appears to be very different agendas and dreams. The story has many touching moments and surprises. The Christmas season also makes for a great backdrop for the story since it is the time of year when we all want to see people come together in love and happiness. The author has done wonderful job crafting this story. I would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Heartwarming Christmas Story October 8, 2012
Format:Hardcover
If you love reading fiction stories around the holidays, then A Merry Little Christmas is for you! Anita Higman did a fantastic job at bringing two people from two very different worlds together.
Back blurb: Fall in love with this cozy story about two people from different worlds. Franny Martin is an Oklahoma farm girl who's preparing to spend the holidays alone...again. Then Charlie Landau shows up one day, all wealth and polish, and offers to buy Franny's farm. Franny has no money to speak of, but she is clever and spirited, and she's more than happy to sell the farm and move to the city.
As Sinatra croons from the radio and Christmas descends upon her charming farm, Franny teaches Charlie the curious and sometimes comical ways of country life. In the process, they unearth some discoveries of the heart--that sometimes love comes when you're least ready for it. Will the holidays bring their most impossible dreams within reach?

I loved the premise of the story. The characters drew me in right away! I love Franny's spunk and Charlie's honesty. This is a great book. Anyone who loves to read Christian fiction would love this story. A heartwarming, feel good kind of story! I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Merry Little Christmas October 19, 2012
Format:Hardcover
At first glance, this story seemed like I was walking into a movie that had already begun. It took a couple of pages before getting hooked. How many Christmas stories have you read or listened to? What is your favorite Christmas movie? I can tell you that I have read many books, but very few Christmas themed novels. My favorite movie is with Jimmy Stewart, It's a Wonderful Life. The angel's name in that work of fiction on screen is Clarence, which also happened to be my father-in-law's name.
Do you find yourself reminiscing a little bit during the holidays? Do you make time to remember all that the Lord has done for you and how He has blessed you? I know that some people keep themselves very busy during this time of year because it can be filled with pain so what better way to avoid it? For others, Christmas is another day off work, shopping very early in the mornings or maybe even decorating.
The author places her characters in a small town in Oklahoma on a farm that is owned and managed by a 30-something woman who goes by the name of Frannie. Frannie loves her farm and has been running it since she lost both parents in an accident. As the holidays draw near Frannie believes that it will be another season she will spend all alone. The year of the story begins in 1961, when Civil Rights are beginning to take center stage all over America.
Charlie is the oldest son of a wealthy widower who is expected to take over the business his father began years ago. When he reads an advertisement for a farm for sale, he believes this time he can do it without being a failure. No matter what he is doing on the farm, he is there for one purpose and only time will tell if it comes to fruition.
