Review

A lonely but independent widow and a man hellbent on revenge. In the third book of The Merry Widows trilogy, Theresa Michaels brings readers a heartwarming, bittersweet tale of love. Sarah Ann Westfall and Rio Santee have nothing in common except a fierce need to be cared for and loved. Sarah is terrified when Rio first arrives at her house in the dead of night. He uses his half-Apache heritage to scare her, but Sarah is not so easily frightened. Although she would gladly shoot Rio, she can't turn her back on his two young sons. So she opens her house and loses her heart to a man who has nothing to offer her. Rio has lost his wife, his home and his livelihood. He will not lose his sons again. Hunted because of his Apache blood, he is determined to seek revenge on the men who destroyed his life. He never counted on caring for the beautiful, headstrong Sarah. Whatever his feelings for her, he knows there can be no future for them. Sarah finishes The Merry Widows trilogy in a most satisfying way. Sarah and Rio's story will touch the hearts of readers and linger in your memory. Theresa Michaels is one of a handful of historical authors who consistently delivers a satisfying read, time after time. A sweet and sensual love story. Theresa Michaels once again proves herself to be a masterful storyteller! Sarah will stay with you long after you finish reading it! A heartwarming conclusion to a very special trilogy! Theresa Michaels' writing shines in her newest book! Fans will be delighted, new readers will want to find more of this author's wonderful work. 5.0 out of 5 stars What a "knock out ending" for this fantastic trilogy!, July 14, 1999
By
Having enjoyed the first two books in the Merry Widow trilogy I was all set to enjoy Sarah's story. She is strong, independent, and a woman who is training and selling horses on her own now that Catherine and Mary have married and have homes of their own.

Rio Santee is a man on the run with his two sons. He is accused of murder and is being hunted by killers who are more like animals. He finds Sarah's home in a rainstorm and seeks shelter and food for his sons. Sarah is shocked, but comes to realize she will come to no harm, and decides to help Rio and his sons since he is in dire striates. It never seems to stop raining, which keeps the townspeople away as well as the killers.

One of the things that Rio wants to protect Sarah against is that he is part Apache, and although he never fought with the Apaches against the whites, he is an outcast. He suffered a family tragedy when his deceased Irish grandfather left him a house and land. Breeds were not allowed to own property and it was taken away from him with tragic results.

Sarah and Rio both have deep secrets that have caused them great pain. As they learn to know one another they find themselves caring about one another and are able to share their pain and through love are healed. I did a whole lot of crying while reading this uplifting romance. Get out the hankie box! And it's got a knockout ending.

To me, Sarah's story wraps up this trilogy perfectly with a great heroine and a hero you'll remember for a long time to come. He is phenomenal. I think you will be turning the pages just as quickly as I did. Look forward to a rewarding reading experience and I bet you will be smiling through your tears and cheering for a writer who believes in the power of love. Ms. Michaels, I love your books, your spirit, your creativity, and you write the best dag-gone heroes ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars you won't forget RIO, June 26, 1999
This is probably the best of "The Merry Widows" trilogy. Auhtor Teresa Michaels sets an exciting, sensuous pace that never lets up. And beautiful embattled "Sarah" really is a match for the dangerous, compelling renegade Rio - "your worst nightmare." A great read - I loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS - #3 OF THE MERRY WIDOWS - SARAH, February 21, 2005

Sarah Ann Westfall was alone. Mary and Catherine have fallen in love and moved away from Hillsboro. She soon learns, again, the bite of fear. Learn Sarah's secrets of shame and fear.

Rio Santee, half Apache, and his sons Lucas and Gabrielle must seek shelter from the raging storm and driving rain.

He has rescued his sons from the mission but now has three savage killers on his trail. He tried to threaten and instill fear into Sarah but she made his Apache blood pound in his veins.

The storm brought about flooding and one of the hombre's tracking them. Mud, Mud was everywhere! Sarah couldn't understand why Lucas would not even speak to his father. Now, Gabrielle, he wanted loving - Rio still wasn't over the death of his wife. He tried to lose himself in the bottle. Well, that didn't work.

Rio was just counting the days when he could leave - yet he knew that he would have to take Sarah's rifle and her horses - where would that leave her [for protection] - And, drat it, she had reawaken the powerful surge of life and desire that clawed at him whenever she was near.

Now here is a story with a good level of excitement - the threat of bloodcurdling danger - beastial villians - pounding desire rapidly sliding into the more dangerous emotions of love.
That both were determined to deny.

The final get-together of widowed friends [now married] left a bit to be desired - [Sarah definitely should have had a child] but it was excellent - no matter!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --? An excellent set of books - definite keepers -- see what you think!
