I just saw the George Gruntz band at the Montreux Jazz Festival, and they tore the place up. People who had never heard of the band were blown away, as I am with every album. The musicians are among the really great players in both New York and Europe, the arrangments (all done by Gruntz) are inventive, witty, fresh, and beautiful--Gruntz brings together the musical and harmonic possibilities of 20th century "legit" music with the hard-swinging spirit of the best jazz. This band should be wildly exciting for anyone who likes good jazz.
