5.0 out of 5 stars If you like the show, you'll LOVE this game!
Got this for my Dad, who had seen the show a few times and enjoyed it. He loves this game and finds it very challenging, even for experienced crossword geeks like himself. :-)

3.0 out of 5 stars Just as Cheezy as the show that inspired it.
This game is quite a lot like the now-defunct game show that it comes from. The graphics are very basic, with the host and the contestant depicted only as shadows. (The contestant's shadow looks amazingly like the Geico Caveman.) The only sounds that you hear is the emcee saying stuff like "Here we go," and "Here's your next clue."

The "Crossword Extra"...

4.0 out of 5 stars Tough but fun game to play, June 17, 2010

I ordered this game through amazon.com. I've reached the 250,000 point level and that wasn't easy. Some of the clues are very hard. But I like the challenge. The more words you fill out in the first three rounds, the less words you'll have to solve in the final round. You can get prizes and there are bonus words to help boost your score throughout the game.

The host's voice is clearly audio clips from the show. He tends to repeat a lot, like a robot, but the game is fun and crossword fans will find it challenging. You can unlock features in the game with high scores, adding to the challenge. Plus, once you load the game in your computer, you don't have to put the disc in each time you play it.

I use to watch this game while it was on TV and was happy to see the PC version. The questions in each pubzzle are not too hard but still challenging. You have to reach certain points in order to advance to the next level, which gets harder each level. Alot of fun!

The game is made for children who were raised on the Wheel of Fortune. It is not a serious crossword puzzle game. The responses are trivial and timed. It is a race not a thoughtful crossword puzzle. I guess I shouldn't have expected more from Merv Griffin. I was very disappointed.

Basic game is OK but the additional games are not very challenging. Documentation - including read me files - is minimal at best. On the plus side - it loaded easily and appears to run well on Vista.

The "Crossword Extra" shows up so often that it's possible to win massive amounts of money by just betting your whole score. For instance, I won $168,000 in one game. The "Crossword Getaways" show up quite often too, and slow the game down somewhat.

If you are into crosswords, this game may be for you, but buying a puzzle book would probably do you as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, March 3, 2009

This is one game show that I truly enjoyed watching on TV early morning. Unfortunately, the show is no longer televised. By chance I was at BIG LOTS and saw the game on cd reasonably priced. Purchased the CD and didnt notice that it was for Windows 2000 and xp. Windows Vista is on my new notebook so I was unable to install this version. Went back online to see if they had a version for windows vista and they did. So I purchased the CD online. Received the cd and it will not allow me to download on my computer. The drive D under properties shows that the there is no space on my drive. Can someone help me if you have been successful downloading from the cd in vista. The original CD for 2000 and xp downloaded with no problem on my old PC. I am very disappointed because all other cd games downloaded with no problem on my notebook. Would appreciate any help that you can offer. Thank you
