I love this album! I spoke Hungarian many years ago and had forgotten much of what I once knew. I decided I needed to freshen up my language skills and started looking for ways to do it. I'm a big fan of the Hungarian band NOX, of which Peter Szabo Szilvia is the lead singer, so I was very pleased to discover that she had recorded an album of stories for children.

The stories on this album were written by Benedek Elek, a popular Hungarian journalist and writer who died in the early 1900s. He collected and wrote fairy tales, among other things, and these are some great ones! Interspersed between the stories are short Hungarian sayings, poems, and even a tongue twister. Szilvia does an excellent job of using her voice to bring these stories to life. And it's nice to hear short snippets of NOX music between story tracks!

Obviously, if you don't understand Hungarian this album isn't going to be very useful for you. I have listened to this album over and over, not only because I find it immensely useful in helping me remember old skills long forgotten, but because the stories are truly delightful. Every culture has a slightly different style in presenting their own fairy tales or legends and the Hungarian style is one that always makes me smile. I hope you find this as enjoyable as I did.

Now if only the NOX music CDs were available!

EDIT: There are three NOX music CDs available in MP3 downloads. Ragyogás, Örömvölgy, and Csendes. For some reason they were listed under the band from the Netherlands--not only not the same band, but very different music styles!
