International Songs Nicely Sung in French,
By unraveler "unraveler" (Nevada) - See all my reviews

Mireille Mathieu was one of the biggest pan European stars of the 1970s and 80s. On this disk she beautifully sings songs writtien or influenced by French, English, American, and Greek artists. She has a very strong, confident, and expressive voice.

MM possesses an incredible voice. She can sure carry a tune with fabulous projection. MM was blessed with a seemingly perfect life. She realized her dream of becoming a singer. She is now happily married with children. This is why she should not be named Piaf's successor as she sometimes is (in fact, Piaf named DALIDA as her successor--far more fitting because of Dalida's personal traumas, altho' Dalida's voice is far different from Piaf's, whereas MM's is a bit closer). MM sings as if it is her craft. Piaf sings because it is her life and she lives those songs every time she sings them. In other words, although her voice is technically superb, sometimes MM's songs come off less than heartfelt or emotional. This does not bother me, though it may bother some. This CD made me become a fan of MMThe quality of these songs is 5 stars, the quality of the disk is 4 because it is just another compilation and I hate Paul Anka's appearance on this CD. I find my favorite songs to be Sta Maria, Ma delivrance, Femme amoureuse, Je veux l'aimer, Tous les enfants.

This is not an original album, but surely it is an auditory delight, for those who loves French songs (songs sung in French). The language and Mireille's interpretation give the songs a new dimension.

I am a huge fan....So let that be your grain of saltwith this review. I have trouble listening to her sing in German, so this French version of many international songs is great. They are remastering her "CHANTE PIAF" album which is scheduled for release in about a week or two (OCT 7, 03). Her voice has a bell like quality that is unlike any other singer I have heard. She is (so sorry) much better than Streisand in selling a song and, well, I like her voice much better. Her "MES PLUS GANDS SUCCES" numbers ONE and TWO are the "MUST HAVES" after that, you'll likely want more. E Wilson

MIREILLE IS A GOOD SINGER.,

This is a perfect cd of MIREILLE if you want only one from her.Two nice duets with PAUL ANKA;FRENCH versions of ALWAYS ON MY MIND and WOMAN IN LOVE + hits like ACROPOLIS ADIEU and JE T'AIME AVEC MA PEAU.MIREILLE is an excellent singer with impeccable technique. Her detractors often say that she sings without emotion, but her fans have the last word because they know that MIREILLE has always remained faithful to her public. We should never compare her to EDITH PIAF, a very different type of woman and singer.PIAF used to live through the songs she sang, while MIREILLE is more like a professional athlete who knows her craft.

The most beautiful songs,

I am a big fan of Mireille Mathieu music. In my opinion she is the most talented French singer with the most beautiful voice. The way she sings makes your heart smile, fill you with positive emotions and raise your spirit. It is so pity that in Ukraine, where I am from, it is impossible to find her CDs. I am not sure if it is a breach of policy, but I would like here to turn to people with a request of assistance. I will appreciate very much if someone could help me to get her music. As a token of my appreciation I will send you some CDs with Russian music.

Just another Compilation...,
This review is from: Mes Plus Belles Chansons d'Amour (Audio CD)
This album includes a number of Mireille's most favored Love Songs which is fine... but in the meantime it focuses mostly on her commercial releases, e.g. Akropolis Adieu, Santa Maria De La Mer, Mille Colombes & Tous Les Enfants Chantent Avec Moi. The question is, "Is this is just another Greatest Hits package? Listeners will be satisfied by the haunting vocals on "Je Veux L'Aimer", the powerful "Une Femme Amourseuse" (Woman In Love) & the quintessential Duets with Paul Anka. But still, where is that beautiful Duet with Charles Aznavour "Une Vie D'Amour" or her own rendition of Lionel Richie's "Hello"? The Labels should get in shape and start re-mastering and re-releasing some of those old records that have been locked forever somewhere in the vaults.

This lady has developed her name and following in the 1960s. I find it truly amazing that this album Mes Plus Belles Chansons D'Amour was released in 1998 and the other contender was the music she released in 2002 on De Tes Mains. What an amazing long distance singer she is and what a great team she has organized around her. She does not write her own music nor lyrics as far as I can tell, but the songs she sings are beautiful and her voice is spectacular. She covers a lot of songs by other artists as well, but the best songs are the ones written for her. The music is very mellow as you probably know or expect. This definitely is pop music, but some of the most beautiful I have ever heard. Her songs are soft but the structure of a lot of them progresses. These discs are not that easy to get. I usually end up listening mostly to 2 albums of hers, this one and De Tes Mains. I have 4 other ones as well but they are not as good. My favorite songs of this album Mes Plus Belles Chansons D'Amour are #12, #3, #6, #10, #13, #15. I am not sure if there are many great songs left out ther on other discs but my favorite songs of Mireille Mathieu are the following: Tu N'As Pas Quitte Mon Coeu, La Solitude, Amour Defendu, Tout Au Bout De L'Amour, Les Larmes De Tes Yeux, Et Je T'Aime, Je Veux L'Aimer, La Vie N'Est Plus La Vie Sans Nous, Si Je Revenais, Ma Deliverance, Une Femme Amoureuse, Chansons Des Rues, Toute Une Vie, Je T'Aime Avec Ma Peau. I have to say honestly that I would not listen much to this music if I was going to listen either to this album I am reviewing or even to the compilation I have made, if I did not mix it with other music. After a while the feeling gets...too light. However, I sometimes load it inside my 5 cd changer with other music I love and this light music transforms. Place them in right settings and these songs add so much to your atmoshpere.

Even if you don't understand a word of French, this singer will give you a warm squishy feeling. She's a wonderful singer and is found here singing some of the Europe and the world's best known love songs in what are beautiful productions. If you don't already have it, consider her Platinum triple CD as well for more international hits.
