Admittedly, I may be missing the mark on my settings on the device; God knows I've monkeyed with it a lot.

Very nice heavy sound! Full of 'fatness' and layers in it's distortion! It has worth it a big deal!

I recommend!

Meh. I used to own a first-generation Dual Rectifier head that I unfortunately sold when I left the country for several years- wish I'd put it in storage!

Anyway, I watched a few reviews of this pedal online, and thought it sounded OK- I was looking for a way to beef up my Super Champ XD, so I pickup up a Throttle Box off Craigslist. The pedal was OK, definitely well-made and pretty solid sounding but just didn't have any magic. I really wanted to like this pedal, and I guess there is nothing wrong with it but I ended up selling it. To my ears it sounded sterile and a bit 'plasticky' for want of a better word. Not the sweet, dynamic and warm tone I was looking for. BTW just got a J Rocket Archer- completely different pedal of course but just astounding- review of it soon.

All in all, this is a pretty good distortion pedal that does a decent job of replicating the tone of a typical Mesa amp, less one important element, harmonics. Try as I may, I had the hardest time getting this thing to really scream, though it did everything else with solid competence. Admittedly, I may be missing the mark on my settings on the device; God knows I've monkeyed with it a lot. Now, I only use this pedal when I want to go sans amp and into a DAW, a circumstance where I can work around this box's shortcoming through various VST's. Generally, I like this little box, but it does have a significant black mark against it, one that my Mesa/Boogie amp most certainly does not.

A very heavy pedal...not for blues/rock. I played it through a Hot Rod Deluxe and could not get the same clarity as I could with my other drive pedals. If you're into serious rock or heavy metal, this pedal may be for you.

To be fair, I have not used this pedal extensively and I need to try it with more amps. That being said, I have tried various settings with this pedal with a few amps. First in front of a Line 6 HT spider valve 100 half stack. The lows are muddy, the mids sound hollow, and the high frequency response is extremely poor--and that's through Clean, Twang, and Crunch channels. I tried it in front of a Blackstar ID TVP 60 with similar results. I then tried it with a Vox AC50 2X12 combo and the sound is even worse. I've been playing guitar for 40 years, and I'm a heavy rock/metal head. I know what a good distortion pedal sounds like. I have a Fulltone OCD, a Tube Screamer, and various other distortion pedals, and they all blow this thing off the map. Sure, this has a lot of distortion, but what good is that if the sound quality is poor? I am not giving up on this pedal because of all the good reviews, and if I find the right configuration I'll come back and write a good review. To be honest, I was hoping to find a warm and creamy tone with some decent high-end sparkle on some leads when I need it, but instead I'm hearing what sounds like my old Mesa F100 head with bad tubes.
