Drift and Dream,

starts out windy and forcefull, floats into meloncholy chimey wisps. Manages (within)a hairbreath "eastern" sounds and influences, a determined and mindful push to, well drift and dream. Contemplative, very much so, innnovative somewhat, but well orchestrated. Keeps your attention but allows you to lightly focus as well.

Great ethno-ambient,

Tuu has been around for well over ten years, and this is without question their best full-length release to date. The combination of synthesized sounds and a wide range of Asian instruments (mostly percussion) results in music that can be adventurous, playful, and/or contemplative.Native instruments used include clay pot (the Indian term is ghatam), gongs, bells, harmonium, bansuri (a wooden flute), ney (a Middle Eastern wind instrument) and others. This album is consistently stronger and more interesting than the group's previous releases; definitely worth a listen.

If you're looking for a great fusion of Tibetan instruments, and some style, with modern Western "new ageish" music, look no further. For meditation, relaxation, sleep, or simply as good music, this is a great buy.

Tuu - 'Mesh' (Hearts Of Space),
By
This review is from: Mesh (Audio CD)
Looks to be Tuu's second of four(4) releases they'd put out. About as good as their 'Terma' CD (see my review). This music would be best categorized under -ambient techno-. 'Mesh' offers it's listeners some rather indepth aural pleasures with it's sedated drones, deeply-layered keyboards and hypnotic yet, almost eerie rhythms. Most mesmerizing cuts here are the new-age like "Crack Between The Worlds", the pure ambient gem "Migration", the twelve minute title track "Mesh" and the somber "Four Pillers". Thought the flutes, gongs, didgeridoo, synthesizer, sampling, e-bow and bells used to create 'Mesh' were put to good use. Might appeal to fans of Loop Guru, The Orb, Biosphere and Aphex Twin.

Vegetative music for vegetative minds,

It's obvious from the other reviews that some people are really into this kind of music. But if it were up to me, I'd rename this compact disc "Prozac: The Album".
The description on the back of the cd says 'TUU hit their stride on MESH with a musical intelligence that is both accessible and uncompromised." Huh? A lot of fancy, flighty words that are so ambiguous as to be meaningless. It also states 'Hypnotic clay drum rhythms"..again, question mark. There is no rhythm to this, no beat. Just....sounds. Bells, soft keyboards and flutes that drone on and on and on and on and on and....well, you get the point. B-O-R-I-N-G. Nothing, nada. Not a single track that moves faster than a snail's pace. No music that really lifts you up or gets you going. In short, the most mind-numbing CD I've ever listened to. Period. I understand about 'setting the mood' and all. If you're into tai chi, yoga or meditation, this might be for you. Otherwise, steer clear. As for soft, exotic music, the work Michael Stearns did for the soundtrack of 'Baraka' fits the bill much better: http://www.amazon.com/Baraka-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B0000015GX/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1274435235&sr=8-2 |
