Editorial Reviews

Although under Appreciated and Woefully Overlooked During their Original Tenure Together, the Fine Early-'70s Outfit Cymande were One of the First to Merge African Rhythms with Rock, Funk, Reggae, and Soul. Despite Members Hailing from Such Exotic Locales as Guyana, Jamaica and St. Vincent They Formed and Recorded in London Town. The Band Issued a Total of Three Releases: 1972's Self-titled Debut, 1973's "Second Time Around" and 1974's "Promised Heights" Before Splitting Up . Through the 80s their Currency Grew with Tracks Such as 'the Message' and 'bra' Becoming Big Records on the Rare Goove Scene and Today They Are Arguably Better Known Than Ever with Several of their Songs Having Been Sampled by Rap Artists Including De La Soul, the Fugees, Raze, Master Ace, MC Solaar, and DJ Kool.

My husband Loved it! It was a gift for his 40th birthday. We are from the old school and it's refreshing to know you can still find this stuff on Amazon so you can hear the original in all its glory! It's amazing how most of the songs have been sampled by today's artists a million times over and no one knows the history of who made them.

It's strange the way I find great music. I first heard Cymande watching the Spike Lee movie 25th Hour on cable. I can't remember the plot but I do remember hearing just a piece of Cymande's song Bra being played in a club scene. From that bit alone I was hooked.

Cymande is a unique mixture of funk, reggae, African pop and American soul. At times they sound like Santana at other times it's Curtis Mayfield. But the combination of influences and the musicians' skill makes them unique. Bassist Steve Scipio deserves much credit for his targeted playing but an awesome horn section doesn't hurt either.

Since this collection has all three albums Cymande made, it is essential.

Why doesn't anyone make music like this anymore? Sampled by almost everyone but never matched. The funky jazzy instrumental "Dove" will make you wish for more. And it only gets better. I highly recommend it to any serious music lovers and those looking for the authentic 70's grooves.

Yep......I bought this one too!, Sound is just as good as The Renegades Of Funk cd. Once again.....if you can find it...buy it. It will be expensive but an investment well worth it. Peace out.
