5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good!
It's hard to give a personal review of a Bible because reading the Bible is an intensley personal thing, but here's my experience:

I admit, I was skeptical about this translation but I kept picking it up out of curiosity at a friend's house and found that I had a hard time setting it down. I've read the NIV and the NAS straight through over the years but it...

1.0 out of 5 stars content amazing- print too small to read
Having purchased several Message bibles as gifts I was extremely disappointed when this bible came with such small print that no one could read it. I ordered two with covers exactly like several I had already bought. The cover and content of the bibles in this order were identical to previous bibles but the print was so small it was illegible. I had to return them both.

It's hard to give a personal review of a Bible because reading the Bible is an intensley personal thing, but here's my experience:

I admit, I was skeptical about this translation but I kept picking it up out of curiosity at a friend's house and found that I had a hard time setting it down. I've read the NIV and the NAS straight through over the years but it felt more like a duty than for pleasure. With the Message, I find myself reading the Bible for pleasure for the first time since right after becoming a Christian.

I recomend it to anyone wishing to see scripture from a new perspective. I just reads so well!

1st and 2nd Kings read like novels. The Gospels are so REAL it's creepy. And the Psalms feel like poetry that FLOWS instead of the disjointed feeling I had before in other translations. I don't know how else to put it, but now that I own my own copy, I can't put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful little Bible, May 4, 2007

The two-tone {blue/black}leather cover is beautiful. If one needs/wants a small sized Bible, this reflects a well thought out compromise.

The off-white paper is easy on the eyes, and seems to make the 'bleed-through' more tolerable.

The font size is small - but when coupled with the dark print and off-white paper, it's acceptable.

I do wish for thicker {or less transparent paper} - but I certainly have no buyer's regrets. I recommend it.

It is a really nice bible for the price. It doesn't have religious look with gold pages. It also have life time warranty on its binding and cover by just mailing it back to company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breath of Fresh Air!, June 9, 2008

I am a young minister, and have been in ministry for about 4 years now. My primary translation has been the New American Standard Bible because of its accuracy to the Hebrew and Greek. I always heard of the Message Bible but assumed (which is never a good idea) that it was some man's interpretation of scripture in modern-day paraphrase. BUT when I read that Eugene Peterson was a Greek and Hebrew scholar and prophessor before he was a pastor, and translated the Message with this knowledge and experience as Teacher and Pastor, I decided to give it a try. Ever since it arrived, I have been refreshed and amazed by the wonderful way Mr. Peterson words scriptures to bring out the meaning and "kick you in the face" so to speak. I love it. He comes right out and says in the intro to his translation that this isn't meant to be a study bible, but a way to give life to the scriptures that may be tough to see through many other translations. In one word - refreshing. Thank you Eugene Peterson for your wonderful, Holy Spirit-led work. I recommend this translation to anyone looking for a refreshing outlook on the scriptures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book in a Lovely Package, October 28, 2008

This review is from: The Message//REMIX 2.0 (Imitation Leather)
I love this Bible. It is 7.5 x 5.5 x 1.5", weighs 1 lb 9 oz, and very flexible in your hand. Love the soft, leather-like exterior. It lays flat on a surface when opened and has a "lifetime" guarantee! If the binding fails or you "just wear it out from use, you may return it for a free replacement" in the U.S. The cream colored paper is easy on the eyes, AND it does read more like a novel.

It is more pleasureable to "just read" than other translations, however I'm using it for Bible study as well as other translations because it adds to understanding. As the intro says, virtually anyone can read this Bible & understand what it says. Especially in the Old Testament, it gives a better understanding of context.

Compare Numbers 33 NKJV, These are the journeys of the children of Israel, who went out of the land of Egypt by their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron... For the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn, whom the LORD had killed among them. Also on their gods the LORD had executed judgments, and

Numbers 33 TheMessage, These are the camping sites in the journey of the People of Israel, after they left Egypt, deployed militarily under the command of Moses and Aaron... The Egyptians, busy burying their firstborn whom GOD had killed, watched them go. GOD had exposed the nonsense of their gods.

I don't often think of Moses as a military commander, yet he was a superb military tactician. Also, "camping sites" on a journey registers with me whereas "journeys" doesn't. Then the "camping sites" are listed in a column, not a paragraph, so they're easier to peruse or skip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for..., August 8, 2007
I have been using the Message version for about two years. It has really opened the scriptures up to me in new and fresh ways. To be able to read the Bible as it was intended to be read, in common conversational language, is a great blessing. My favorite para-phrase!
I love the size and style of this one. It easy to carry around and to work without looking like you are a bible-thumper carrying some huge black KJV Bible. The remix version is great as it gives more detailed verse number descriptions for when you want to refer to other versions and compare.
A great daily reader!!!

This is a great version of The Bible. It is written like a novel. It is written very straight foward. It really states it like it is.

This was a gift for my wife. The cover is very attractive looking and seems durable. The text is pretty small but readable. If you like the Message paraphrase, this is a great version for the ladies. As usual, the verse numbers are removed from the text and placed to the side (so you can still look up specific verses).
