More About the Author

A professional writer for more than forty years, Yarbro has sold over eighty books, more than seventy works of short fiction, and more than three dozen essays, introductions, and reviews. She also composes serious music. Her first professional writing - in 1961-2 - was as a playwright for a now long-defunct children's theater company. By the mid-60s she had switched to writing stories and hasn't stopped yet.

After leaving college in 1963 and until she became a full-time writer in 1970, she worked as a demographic cartographer, and still often drafts maps for her books, and occasionally for the books of other writers.

She has a large reference library with books on a wide range of subjects, everything from food and fashion to weapons and trade routes to religion and law. She is constantly adding to it as part of her on-going fascination with history and culture; she reads incessantly, searching for interesting people and places that might provide fodder for stories.

In 1997 the Transylvanian Society of Dracula bestowed a literary knighthood on Yarbro, and in 2003 the World Horror Association presented her with a Grand Master award. In 2006 the International Horror Guild enrolled her among their Living Legends, the first woman to be so honored; the Horror Writers Association gave her a Life Achievement Award in 2009.

A skeptical occultist for forty years, she has studied everything from alchemy to zoomancy, and in the late 1970s worked occasionally as a professional tarot card reader and palmist at the Magic Cellar in San Francisco.

She has two domestic accomplishments: she is a good cook and an experienced seamstress. The rest is catch-as-catch-can.

Divorced, she lives in the San Francisco Bay Area - with two cats: the irrepressible Butterscotch and Crumpet, the Gang of Two. When not busy writing, she enjoys the symphony or opera.

I try to read a chapter every night.
Le Magicien.
It offers great insight into the reason we are here, how we choose our lessons on the astral plane and then incarnate on this physical plane so that class may begin.
Daniel Williams
Well, just use that trick from another good read, the Celestine Prophecies and understand that feeling of assuredness that kicks in, and makes things stand out.

I first read this book years ago when my then-boyfriend handed it to me as something to consider. The Ouija board on the cover of the paperback made me skeptical and hesitant to read what I thought would be a book of 'hocus pocus.' I put my skepticism on hold, and was amazed to find a book so useful as I tried and tested some of the information in my day-to-day life. All is chosen. Messages from Michael further explains choice, ramifications of choice, agreements between fragments ('people,' in laymen's terms), The seven essence roles (Warrior, King, Slave, Scholar, Artisan, Sage and Priest), each role's overleaves, their polarities (positive and negative), centering, and modes. All of these aspects affect choice, and depending upon one's overleaves, some choices will be easier than others. Also covered are the seven levels of love and the seven levels of disagreement. Fear and maya are the obstacles to overcome in love, agape. This book has helped me to become more aware of myself, my maya, and the world around me. I highly recommend this book. If you can, also try to get the two books that follow in this series: More Messages from Michael (five stars), and Michael's People (five stars).

This book is compiled from information claimed to be channeled from an entity from a higher plane. Regardless of the source, and whether or not you believe this, the information is difficult to challenge, and has alot of validity. I first read Messages from Michael 8 years ago, and since have read it a couple of times, and referred back to it countless times. I have not found a conflict with any of the information given in any of the four Michael books by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, and the info works for me, everday. I changed quite a bit after first reading the book, because it made me think so intensely about my beliefs & positions on many ideas. Some of the information presented is: Reincarnation. The non-existence of heaven or hell. The hows and whys of how people relate to each other through many lives. The things that make up your personality, and how they relate to others. And a thousand etc's. I learned very many things about myself since I read it, and I think back upon the info almost daily. I HIGHLY recommend this book, and "More messages from Michael", "Michaels' People", "Michael for the millenium", all by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, if you are searching for answers that religion does not provide.

"Messages From Michael" provides an interesting look at soul evolution. It's described from the "viewpoint" of an entity known as "Michael", who has apparently already been through much of this evolution itself & had come through to share its' knowledge.

One of the things that really drew me into this book is that it's stated over & over again that belief is not required, and that this information is NOT meant to be used dogmatically - but instead used to expand ourselves - evolution will occur no matter what we choose.

It's also strongly suggested that, instead of believing all that is said on blind faith, one should test this information for themselves - think of your life, and ask yourself "could this make sense in light of the info. provided in the Michael "teachings".

Overall, I found this book to be very interesting, exciting & thought-provoking - it was a real page-turner. I especially liked the discussions around various soul ages, levels & such - These sections helped me to consider a new potential reason for why we may be drawn to some people, and want to avoid others at all costs - something I find quite interesting.

In the end, I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in spirituality & soul evolution - it has much to offer.

Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's Michael books (Messages from Michael, More Messages from Michael, Michael's People, and Michael for the Millennium) are among the best examples of "channeled" wisdom. They are similar in some ways to the "Course in Miracles", the Seth books of Jane Roberts, and several other such bodies of work dictated to mortal human beings by disincarnate teachers. The source of the wisdom in "Messages from Michael" and its sequels is a supposed integrated causal plane spiritual entity who borrows the name "Michael" from its last-incarnated individual human soul fragment. Each such entity, according to Michael, comprises about 1,000 such fragments or souls.

Michael describes a system by which all human souls, themselves fragments of some causal plane entity similar to the Michael entity, are cast into existence by the Tao; and how each soul fragment has as many physical incarnations as it takes for the fragment "to experience all of life", that is, to absorb all of the wisdom that life is designed to give to each of us. Each fragment is cast in one of seven "roles in essence" which it retains throughout its evolutionary path. For each incarnation it may choose a different set of "overleaves", characteristics that will profoundly color the fragment's personality and the kind of experiences it is likely to have in that particular life. Michael describes in lucid detail the system of overleaves, giving plenty of examples of how they work together to create a particular kind of life experience. Michael also describes the major life lessons ("monads") that each fragment must complete and the workings of karma.

The number 7 pervades the system that Michael describes. There are 7 roles in essence, 7 modes, 7 goals, 7 centers, 7 soul ages, 7 levels within each soal age, etc.
