"Messages From Michael" provides an interesting look at soul evolution. It's described from the "viewpoint" of an entity known as "Michael", who has apparently already been through much of this evolution itself & had come through to share its' knowledge.
One of the things that really drew me into this book is that it's stated over & over again that belief is not required, and that this information is NOT meant to be used dogmatically - but instead used to expand ourselves - evolution will occur no matter what we choose. It's also strongly suggested that, instead of believing all that is said on blind faith, one should test this information for themselves - think of your life, and ask yourself "could this make sense in light of the info. provided in the Michael "teachings". Overall, I found this book to be very interesting, exciting & thought-provoking - it was a real page-turner. I especially liked the discussions around various soul ages, levels & such - These sections helped me to consider a new potential reason for why we may be drawn to some people, and want to avoid others at all costs - something I find quite interesting. In the end, I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in spirituality & soul evolution - it has much to offer.

don't like the changes,

It's nice that there's recent channeling as commentaries to the chapter, but the typeset of the original version was much easier to read, as Michael's comments were easily differentiated and had more of an impact. I'd recommend the book wholeheartedly, but would suggest finding a used copy of the old version.

Imaginative And Thought-Provoking, But Don't Base Your Life On It...,
By Notnadia (Currently upstairs.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Messages from Michael; 25th Anniversary Edition (Paperback)
This often overlooked title should stand high among the metaphysical/occult/New Age books written in the last forty years. It presents what I find to this day, a full decade after first encountering it, as among the most uniquely interesting ways to view life, spirituality and the evolution of the soul. Which is not to say I believe any of this is real, please let me make that clear. I read books like this because I am the sort of woman who enjoys expanding my mind and taking in all that the divergent philosophies of life have to offer.
The Michael material in this book and the three or four others San Francisco writer Chelsea Quinn Yarbro introduced twenty-five years ago has since been commandeered by a number of would-be Michael messiahs, who have composed books of dubious authority, and most of those have launched business ventures wherein they claim they channel the Michael entity, and charge big bucks while doing it. Good for them. Whatever. My advice would be stick to the Yarbro books, as these deal with the original material, as provided by the original (dare I say "the real"?) group. Okay, as for what Michael is all about...gee, where to start? Michael claims it is an entity passing on wisdom regarding the true nature of life and humanity's spiritual mission, from a vantage point of a loftier plane known as the Causal. Michael, 1,050 souls who have completed all incarnations on planet earth and rejoined into one life-force, makes the claim that each living person is a "fragment" of a larger "entity" which has chosen to temporarily splinter into about a thousand individual identities and incarnate on the physical plane in order to evolve toward the eventual reunification with the Tao/God/the All That Is. Therefore, by this reasoning, your mother, your best friend, your pen-pal in the southwest, a painter in Germany, a factory worker in China, plus nine-hundred-odd others might all be part of the same oversoul as you. In order to make this journey, all of us live lifetime after lifetime, learning, experiencing, crawling toward understanding. We begin as infant souls, then progress through the seven levels within baby souldom, young souldom, mature souldom (supposedly where I'm at, the roughest stage of all, rather like the teen years) and finally complete it all as old souls. Within these stages, we are cast as one of seven "roles in essence" (slave, warrior, priest, artisan, scholar, king, priest) and act out our life's lessons and goals from the framework of our role's talents and liabilities. What separates the Michael material from the "flavor of the month" psychic book (the sort I've often uncharitably reviewed in here) is not only its complexity and intricate interweavings of knowledge, but its deft handling of so many of the ponderous questions of life. The book talks about a number of figures from past ages, and tells what their role in essence and soul age was. It offers explanations for many of the issues which trouble and bedevil our lives and it is a fun system of thought and a compelling sort of read. But, as I said, I don't truly think the universe works this way and all Messages From Michael ultimately is...is a mind game composed by someone, somewhere, and except for being an interesting book, I see it as little real value. I give it five stars because it deserves them for being interesting, well-written, and for standing the test of time in my regard. My final advice, unasked for by you, but still offered, is don't let this Amazon review, this book itself, the message of the Michael system, or the message anywhere in any holy text, sermon, textbook or scientific treatise change who you are, unless you're sure you want to be changed. There's no substitute for common sense, self-evaluation, and the inner guidance of that little voice in your head.

Don't doubt what feels right,

This review is from: Messages From Michael: 25th Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
It is interesting that anyone who reads this book will find it to be magnificent but many want to come out and say that they don't really believe it. Well, just use that trick from another good read, the Celestine Prophecies and understand that feeling of assuredness that kicks in, and makes things stand out. Just like how seeing beauty makes something stand out from the rest, the meaningful things in your life will stand out from the pack as well. This book stands out for all to be taken in. Since it doesn't change you or anyone.. it is all about showing you the frameworks and reassuring your values. I would say it really could be called the modern day bible since it allows for a more deeper understanding than the old text. It is a true progression for us souls that have progressed the past 2,000 years... enjoy.

An 18 year-old friend,
By
This review is from: Messages from Michael; 25th Anniversary Edition (Paperback)
18 years ago, when I was a teenager, I came across this book when a kid in my high school was reading it. And because it had a ouija board on the cover, I thought it must be interesting. So, I went to an esoteric bookstore in St. Marks and found myself a copy, and I can say, humbly, that my life became so much more fulfilling in every single fibrous way that it could be since the day I came home with a copy of Messages from Michael.
The words of this wise teacher, my teacher, the Michael Entity, have been a source of grounding and inspiration through out my life. And I take a moment to share gratitude for this leveling work, because thanks to the Michael Teachings, I have been prepared to readily grasp the Teachings of Abraham. I have just encountered the actual channellings from Esther Hicks on audio CD, and how I wish I could also have Michaels' words on audio. And while I am not sure if Abraham is also a mid-causal entity, or a collection of entities speaking from a different plane, Michael "are" different because they just speak about the entire scope of the human condition with out any intention. "Belief is not required". Abraham seem to intent on impressing upon me an understanding of three important universal laws. Abraham seem to "want" or "wish" for me to understand. Michael was always a lot less emotional/intentional about their teachings, and perhaps at the time this was exactly what I needed. Abraham is now an important part of this new stage in my life, however, I feel like my human experience has some comprehension and context as a result of the Michael Teachings. But with Michael, I feel like what I have come to comprehend about myself and my esence has given me clarity about the vehicle/vessel (personality) which I have chosen to operate with in this lifetime. With Abraham, I feel like I understand where that vessel is flowing to and I am becoming more aware of the majestic vibrations that control the direction I am heading versus where I am intending to go. Together, these entities, both Michael and Abraham, offer a unique and distinct education about existing and experiencing the human condition.

Interesting message, but overshadowed by typos,
This review is from: Messages from Michael; 25th Anniversary Edition (Paperback)
This was an interesting book from an interesting teacher. However, I can't wholeheartedly endorse it because of a couple of issues.
The first issue is the question of how much of these teachings came from a Mid-Causal being and how much came from the subconscious of the human channel. We have Michael saying that homosexuality is a human choice and that illnesses such as autism are "mental" illnesses. Those may have been the prevailing attitudes in the 1970s when this book was first published. But I find it hard to believe that a true Mid-Causal being would not know what we've since figured out. My other issue was with the typos. There were too many to count. I might not have minded so much if this had been an original edition. But since this was a 25th-anniversary edition, I would think that someone might want to do a little proofreading. All in all, this was an interesting book that suffered from bad editing and a bad layout. Without reading the whole book, it would be difficult to really get anything out of it. A book with similar teachings that is laid out much better is Ainslie MacLeod's The Instruction.

All Questions Answered,

I found this book answered many questions that I had about the soul and how we as people fit into the universal scheme of things. I found it refreshing that it was informative and yet did not require the reader to adopt any particular belief system or dogma. I highly recommend the book Messages from Michael to any person whose mind is open to new information and ideas. I have for many years, wondered about the obvious gaps in all the established belief systems and religions of the world. I wonder no more. All things are possible with knowledge and understanding. Wonderful Book.

"Far Out" and Esoteric,

This book is an intriguing read and a good introduction to the teachings of Michael. It's a considerable undertaking by the author who, with the help of others in her group, transcribed Michael's teaching via the Ouija board - must have been painstaking! Food for thought on the nature of the soul though I didn't finish the book as a devotee. Just another way of deepening my understanding of the infinite essence of our progression through planes and lives.
