This book is a MUST READ for anyone who is interested in the topics of divine guidance, ancient oracle traditions, the power of synchronicity and the immortal nature of consciousness. i found it to be engaging and written in an easy conversational style, using autobiographical stories as teaching tools as well as including stories from many of her clients. i think Colette Baron-Reid has managed to breathe new life into some dusty old new age topics. What makes this book particularly interesting is the questions it invites rather than the author imposing answers or her imposing her opinions. In reading through to the end I was left pondering the deep relationship we all have with Nature and all living things and all that implies. The historic research was very interesting and adequately reminds us that history has been written by the victors during times of turmoil and transition and rarely shows the total truth of cultural evolution. The book tackles religious superstition with a sense of humor without being offensive and gives the reader some insight into the complex relationship between humanity and its collective need to explain spiritual experience. It left me with hope and a lot to think about. The exercises included were fun and meaningful although some required a little more thought than I expected. The symbol guide in the book will make this a useful reference guide for years to come. i wish she could have flushed out some of the sections .. the numerology was too short but i guess that would mean a whole other book. I was definitely interested in what the next book would be about!
I highly recommend this book. It is an excellent follow up from her book Remembering The Future, as a matter of fact I liked this one even better. I've read many books on this subject but this one really spoke to me. It's obvious she's authentic. I saw her speak at a Hay House event and was impressed by her incredible accuracy and compassion in dealing with the people asking her questions. There's a good buzz about her for a reason.

So many 'psychic' books that I have read seem to be written from the ego. The authors want to impress me, but they always turn me off instead. I love this book. It is so easy to read and so helpful. It answers questions that I have in a very down to earth manner. (pun intended). I have since ordered the other book by Colette and I am hoping it is as easy a read! If you are interested in spirit guides and messages then I definitely recommend Messages From Spirit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colette, how did you know we needed this book?, May 24, 2008

Hello fellow traveler on this light path! If you've been guided to consider this book, all I can say is, Congratulations!!!! You have struck gold! I had a very moving, personal experience with Colette when she received an amazing message for me from my deceased son. Believe me when I tell you how accurate and authentic she is. I would describe her as a vibrant, passionate, funny, deeply caring, down-to-earth individual who tells the Truth as it comes to her in pure form...no "fluff." What a blessing that she is also a gifted writer and is sharing her insight and wisdom with all of us who have been searching for clarity on how to receive spiritual guidance. This book is a treasure trove of personal stories; divination tools and their instructions and historical roots; explanations of signs and symbols from animals, the natural elements, inanimate objects, and numbers and dates; and an outrageously rich and empowering set of ancient oracle messages she calls the "27 Universal Unfoldments."

Her research into why we in North America associate "spookiness" or "woo wooness" to the signs, symbols and intuitive "hunches" that are constantly sent our way was a big "aha!" for me. No wonder so many people are misinformed or downright frightened of the idea of listening to and receiving oracles and omens from Spirit. This bias has been systematically installed into our religious and cultural programming, especially in the West. No judgement on any particular religion or movement...it's just fortifies my own beliefs to know the facts.

The entire book is stuffed with powerful reminders that we are all infinite souls that are never disconnected from our Creator, from Divine Love, or from our loved ones on the other side. People with the same questions that you and I have, have throughout the ages, sought and received answers in fascinating ways. Thank you, Colette, for "collecting" them and presenting them so beautifully, while reinforcing our inner knowing that all is well, that our lives really do have meaning, and that there is so much more!

After waiting a whole month, Amazon finally delivered this book to me. It had been so long that I had forgotten I even ordered it. Needless to say, it was a pleasant surprise when it finally arrived.

I was intrigued by the title and subject matter and decided to give it a go. I'm currently on a spiritual kick and enjoy these sorts of books, especially the kind that have to do with signs and spiritual guides in general. I love hearing about other people's connection with spirit.

The book gives an interesting exploration into spiritual messages and how they're received, but never really gets in too deep. Colette seems to only barely skim the outer edges of her subject, leaving the reader thirsty for more insight as the book goes on. The book also gives the impression that the author was so excited about her subject matter that she jumped from place to place without really landing anywhere. It was kind of confusing.

Her writing style was also very hard to follow at times, like she was going for a friendly conversational tone that only fell flat because she was trying too hard. I also got the sense that the author was going for confidence in her abilities but chose her words poorly. This made her come across like she thought she was the only 100% accurate psychic in the world. It was a little disconcerting, as I'm sure that's not what she meant.

There was also a whole boring chapter where she gets into religion that I felt I had to slog through. It made no sense at all and it felt like she was only relaying something she overheard from someone else, trying to make it like it was her own discovery. It was terrible and I learned nothing from that chapter. I just wanted her blither to be over with and for her to move on. She eventually did, but the following chapters weren't exactly revelations either.

While this book contains some interesting stories from Colette and her friends, it's not really all that meaty or informative. I finished the book feeling a little confused. Was that all? Isn't there more? Wasn't I supposed to learn something? These are the questions I asked myself when I finally put the book down. It left me feeling pretty unsatisfied compared to how much I was hoping to get from this book.

All in all, I would recommend it, since it does have some pretty interesting stories, but if you're looking to be fulfilled or inspired somehow, this book isn't it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Highly Disappointing, September 6, 2008
This review is from: Messages From Spirit: The Extraordinary Power of Oracles, Omens, and Signs (Paperback)
Here's an example of a book that could have used a good editor to reign in the writer. It's all over the place. Baron-Reid's tendency to tiptoe around intuitive versus psychic versus oracle only serves to confuse the reader. I do believe the Universe speaks to us, but the author claims to find messages in so many sources that it reaches the point of unbelievability. Perhaps the problem is in the delivery rather than the content, but the book reminded me of an unfocused 25 year old who says with enthusiasm and conviction, "Oh, I'm going to be an actress. But that's after I become a prima ballerina and save the polar bears and solve global warming and open my own bed and breakfast!" Finally, the cutesy chapter titles diminish any degree of seriousness the reader might be able to salvage from the content.

With her typical wit, incisive candor and generosity of spirit, Colette explores oracles, omens and signs in a whole new way. She shares her experiences, and those of her clients, to help us open the door to our own divine guidance.

And this time she includes a whole section on animals as healers and messengers!

This book is certain to become a reference, to be read and re-read. If you only buy one book like it this year, buy this one. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colette Does It Again!, May 6, 2008

This review is from: Messages From Spirit: The Extraordinary Power of Oracles, Omens, and Signs (Paperback)
Psychic, Singer, Songwriter and Author! Colette is most definitely a talented individual in so many ways. I completely agree with the other reviewers...the cover grabs you and draws you right in. The colors are ethereal and the wings with the dove evocative of so many levels of spiritually and more.

Since cave-people first glanced at clouds and grunted to each other that certain clouds meant rain, mankind has looked to nature for symbols of glimpses into the future. Colette deftly guides through the maze myth and folklore into what is a more divinely guided way of opening to symbols. Having a gifted intuitives "take' on what symbols can mean just helps kick start the rest of us on our own means of divination.

Colette covers a wealth of lesser known divination methods Cledons, Aleuromancy, 27 Universal Unfoldments and no, I am not telling you what they are! Get the Book - teehee!

Written in a conversational style, as if you were sitting and chatting, Colette sprinkles her own personal stories and those of friends throughout the book. Just ebnough to be interesting, not so much as to be TOO much.

Yes, I am keeping this book on my bookshelf and will be referring to it over and over again...and I do not have to be psychic to know THAT!

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Colette's writing is empowering and inspiring. I love this book!, July 10, 2008

This review is from: Messages From Spirit: The Extraordinary Power of Oracles, Omens, and Signs (Paperback)
I admire Colette's work so much that I put aside
three early mornings in a row, to read and work
through my newly purchased "Messages from Spirit";
although, it was very tempting to devour it from cover
to cover in just one sitting.
Instead, on each of the three mornings I went onto my
balcony with "Messages from Spirit" in one hand and a small cup of
thick Mayan hot chocolate in the other. I had
noticed when first leafing through the book, that Colette
explains the how-tos of tasecomancy and was excited
to test my abilities with this simple form of divination. Much
to my delight, once I knew how to read them, the
messages revealed at the bottom of my cups all came in
loud and clear!
The next several days were full of synchronicity that
I can only describe as magical. I attribute the magic
directly to reading "Messages from Spirit" as I began
to actively open up to the signs that surrounded me.
Thanks to this fabulous book I have learned to ask for
guidance in a more effective way and am much more
able to interpret the signs I receive.
Once again Colette generously shares her personal
knowledge and experiences with wit, wisdom and a
wealth of anecdotes, practical resources and
exercises.
I think this book is an authentic and uncomplicated
"must read" for anyone who is at all curious about
divination, omens, oracles and signs.
I can't wait to share it with my friends and family.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a great overview of so many things., June 5, 2008
This review is from: Messages From Spirit: The Extraordinary Power of Oracles, Omens, and Signs (Paperback)
I greatly enjoyed this book. It covers everything from Tarot, to cloud reading (yes, you can read the clouds you like to gaze at, and not just for weather!) to the origin of the "fortune cookie" and the power of the tradition it is taken from. There's so much material on symbolism here, you likely won't be able to take it all in in one reading. That doesn't take away from the conversational, real-world feel of the book. Both aspects of the book have their place and are a good balance.

The book is a great resource on animal totems and between the reference material at the back (A Guide to the Sacred Sign-Bearers) and her real-world stories and a visualization exercise, that alone could keep you busy for quite a while. The section on numerology is also great and I was able to use it to finally understand what's going on within that system. I even feel like the timing of my getting this book, and reading that particular chapter, was perfect and helped me get just that much more centered on my path.

So my final thought is that this book is great for covering divinition methods that are not the standard few, and if you are called or pulled toward this book it will be well worth your time.

I greatly appreciate this book and urge you not to take my rating of 4 stars as a sign that it is flawed. I am simply someone who rarely rates at a 5.
