Book Description

April 1998
Electronic messaging is one of the most important information technologies available today. This new 265-page CTR report analyzes the entire spectrum of messaging technology, including the most recently developed Internet systems and applications.

E-mail: The First Step When E-mail first became available to general users in the 1970s, it was a mainframe-resident application that served a relatively small constituency. Today, electronic messaging is one of the most important information technologies available. In fact, the messaging market has grown to more than 100 million users worldwide. CTR's new Messaging Technologies for Global Communications analyzes the entire spectrum of messaging technology, including the most recently developed systems and applications. The report will help information technology (IT) professionals do the following: understand the benefits of global communications, evaluate emerging Internet messaging technologies, choose appropriate messaging products, vendors, and security measures, integrate new messaging technologies with legacy systems, and implement and manage an effective messaging system.

Messaging System Management Effectively managing messaging transactions, resources, and client usage is vital to the success of a messaging architecture. Messaging Technologies for Global Communications reviews the protocols and methodologies utilized in implementing management architectures for messaging systems. The report also provides a valuable messaging management checklist, examines the available messaging directories, and evaluates critical security tools and techniques such as encryption and certification.

The Role of Standards

If there is one development that has driven the emergence of open, universal messaging technology, it is the rise and acceptance of standards-based applications.

CTR's report explores these applications, including Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), Post Office Protocol (POP), and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), that open the door to the prospect of global communications.

Internet Messaging: The Future of Communications

E-mail is without question the most prominent network application in use today. The future of this market, however, lies in next-generation Internet messaging.

Messaging Technologies for Global Communications discusses the latest advances in Internet messaging and explains why E-mail has become the fundamental medium for electronic business communication. The report reviews the various supporting technologies, products, and standards that enable system planners to implement Internet messaging architectures. The report also covers the latest trends in messaging integration, including intranet and extranet applications, electronic data interchange (EDI), and Java.

Your Implementation Guide

CTR's new Messaging Technologies for Global Communications report is a complete guide to implementing and managing a next-generation messaging architecture that will support open standards and allow communications on a universal level.
