Book Description

0910735689 978-0910735681 October 1999 3
The Messenger Within opens the door to the fourteen hundred years old Sufi tradition and Sufi wisdom, intoxicatingly alive today. This informative book enriched by Sufi poetry, is an excellent theoretical guide for those who want to set on an inner journey.

This book emphasizes the inner creative powers and one’s connection to the knowledgeable guide within. This journey to one’s core Being is a passionate love affair between the earthly and the divine. This is the essence of Sufism, a mystical path of love that reaches the hearts of all true seekers of every spiritual tradition.

p.118: "When we practice meditation, the mind goes deeper and deeper within and becomes more quiet. When it becomes clear, it is then able to touch its own source, becoming more and more a mirror to the light within. Like a pool whose surface, when ruffled by the winds of anger and desire, is unable to reflect the sun, the agitated mind can no longer mirror and reflect the truth. It is upon the serene and placid surface of the quiet mind that the visions gathered from the invisible find a representation in the visible world."

p.91 “Self-awareness, the superior goal of religion is a journey within, which starts with awakening and hearing the message of love through the heart. This takes place by means of meditation at that time one is able to ascend the spiritual ladder that finally leads to self-awareness.”

The following paragraphs are taken from pages 228 and 229

If a man is bound to his lowest nature, he will never find satisfaction. The satisfaction of primary needs such as food, sex, and security is not the ideal for man, only for animals. There is a difference, although many claim otherwise, between the needs of man and animals. To live like an animal is to deprive man of his birthright and his true identity. Man has other needs and much inner potential has to be discovered in order to live a fulfilled and enriching life. For man is greater than animal. He may know the spirit that gave birth to him; animals may not. Animals are in fact living up to their fullest potential, and their natural requirements and instincts.

Man needs to grow, to be creative, to feel good about the person he is, and to set his own standards. Why should he have to obey the standards society imposes on him? Instead of trying to adapt constantly to the standards that society places upon him, man should tend to his deeper needs. Man needs to know himself. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
