5.0 out of 5 stars Astoundingly clean and useful.
This is the best tool for dismantling a whole chicken. Safer than a knife, and you can take it apart (easily!) and put it in the dishwasher to disinfect. And then reassemble it easily (in 1 second!). I use it also for trimming fat off of pork, lamb, beef, etc., and it's invaluable for removing extra fins, etc., from fish.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not that great
I bought these because Cooks Illustrated gave them a very positive review. I bought several pairs figuring I could give them as stocking stuffers to my adult children who all are fairly serious cooks. I tried them and they were mediocre at best. They weren't sharp and it was difficult to cut even boneless chicken breasts with them. It was like the scissors were...

As noted before, this was rated the best by Cook's Illustrated, so I purchased it. It is an excellent shear, cutting through poultry bones, and anything else that I've used it for, quickly and smoothly. It also comes apart easily for cleaning. I can highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars according to COOK'S ILLUSTRATED, October 14, 2006
I just wanted to be sure that potential purchasers are aware that the hallowed experts at COOK'S rate this item as the very best take-apart shears available: in the Nov/Dec 2006 issue, they say it's "a cut above the rest." I am not affiliated with the magazine...just a loyal reader!

5.0 out of 5 stars best Kitchen shears ever!, November 19, 2008
This review is from: Messermeister 8-1/2-Inch Take-Apart Utlility Shear (Kitchen)
I got these shears because it is a reputable brand and because i can take them apart to wash them in the dishwasher. Although I own mostly all Wuhstoff products, I had to go with the Messermeister shears over the wuhstoff due to the lenght and width of the scissors. They seemed to be more versatile. Not only was I impressed by the fact that they do not stain (like many of my other stainless steel sheers), but i was more impressed with how well they work for the many kitchen tasks I use them for. They are very sharp and are low maintenance. I have used them for cutting flower stems to cutting chicken bones. They work excellent and I still have not had to sharpen them after these last couple of years of regular use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Kitchen Shears, July 22, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the one recommended recently on TV's America's Test Kitchen, and they're the best I've ever had. They come apart for easy cleaning, and are very ergonomically-friendly when you're cutting up whole chicken etc. Thr built-in extras - bottle opener, screw-driver etc - are nice add-ons, but the real value is in the performance of the scissors for tough kitchen work. A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! I can butterfly a chicken!, January 4, 2008

This baby cuts through chicken backbones like buttah! Other shears may do the same, but not without a struggle. By far, though, the best part of this item is that it comes apart easily for thorough cleaning. No chance of bad chicken vibes hanging around on this pair of shears. Easy to disassemble and reassemble.

I bought several pairs figuring I could give them as stocking stuffers to my adult children who all are fairly serious cooks. I tried them and they were mediocre at best. They weren't sharp and it was difficult to cut even boneless chicken breasts with them. It was like the scissors were gumming the meat. I returned all but the pair I used. I have others from Chicago Cutlery (which also come apart for cleaning) which seem to be much stronger and sharper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome kitchen scissors, January 1, 2008
I never used to use my old kitchen scissors - would always make do with a knife - even when they were lying right there in the drawer. But these scissors are used constantly - from cutting up a chicken to cutting open a chip bag. They are simply awesome - and so easy to clean. Buy them!!

This is one great pair of shears to use in the kitchen, especially for cutting chicken. They are super sharp right out of the package and also very comfortable to use. Cook's Illustrated were right on about these. They can also be used to open jars, bottle caps and cutting and trimming meats. Because they take apart so easily there is no worry about getting them clean enough. Great job Messermeister and well worth the money. Thanks for making such a great quality produt that should last for years. If you want a great pair of sharp shears to use in the kitchen get these, you won't be disappointed.
