I've now purchased 2 of these Magnetic Knife Blocks because of their functionality and Gorgeocity. I've bought one for my Dad and one for a friend and they both have been great...almost.
Easy to install, relatively. I found the screw housings sturdy as I helped both Dad and friend install it. For best results, use a level so that you know it's perfectly level before drilling. Once the block is in the place you want it, hold it there and mark with a pencil through the screw hole each of the 2 drill holes. Drill em' out, use wall anchors for sturdiness and support, screw it in and you're done.
I found that the knives stay put exactly where we put them on the block, they did not move. The magnets are very strong as well, much stronger than I anticipated. This block would hold your heaviest hand tool and heavier, maybe 15 pounds?
I personally think this is a MUCH better looking Magnetic Knife Holder than a lot of the crap you find at a Bed Bath. Having said that:
The magnet is so strong that you have to kinda twist the knife off the block. It feels dangerous to just pull it straight off. You definitely have to use a little caution when removing a knife.
I noticed that on my Dad's block, which he's only had for a month, the wood is already starting to brown on the edge because he's been putting wet knives on the block. Lol, Dad, what are you doing? It probably shouldn't brown so easily, if at all, but then again, He shouldn't be putting wet knives on the thing.
Hope this helps.
