Extensive Update, July 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Messerschmitt Me 262 Sturmvogel - Warbird Tech Vol. 6 (Revised Edition) (Paperback)
Jenkins released the first version of this book about 6 years ago. This is a major update to that book. Although it is only 4 pages longer (and printed on MUCH better paper), it contains a lot more information and many more photos. In essence the original book has been condensed into the first 70 pages or so, resulting in about 30 pages of additional information. This is now a very detailed account of the Me 262 project. The only disappointment is that the color section (now 8 pages long) contains very few 194x images. Still, if you are interested int he Me 262, this is a good addition to your library.

Technical History of the Stormbird!, December 18, 2008
This review is from: Messerschmitt Me 262 Sturmvogel - Warbird Tech Vol. 6 (Revised Edition) (Paperback)
MESSERSCHMITT ME 262 STURMVOGEL is a revised, expanded version of Jenkins' earlier WARBIRD TECH volume of the same name, a title I haven't seen. This 2003 revision is impressive on its own merits, being a technical history of the Me 262's development along with the various production versions built or proposed. If you're into nuts-and-bolts, this is the book for you; 104 pages crammed full of stats, diagrams, three-views, exploded views, etc. and all for only $16.95!
After tracing the development of the turbojet in his opening chapter, Jenkins describes initial Me 262 design development, the commitment to production, early contacts with Allied aircraft, various armament configurations, attempts to boost the Stormbird's speed, night-fighter variants, the Japanese Me 262 and so on. If you're looking for exciting 'yank-and-bank' combat accounts, you'll need to look elsewhere; Jenkins keeps his sights firmly on the technical aspects of this fabulous bird.
Along with an eight-page color section, the STURMVOGEL book contains over 130 photos and illustrations including reproductions from various wartime Me 262 manuals.
The only criticism I have of the book is NO index!
That being said, this is a nifty, comprehensive, well-illustrated summary of the Me 262 aircraft. There are more exhaustive books - the four-volume Smith/Creek history comes to mind - but, for those of us who have to watch our pennies, Jenkins' book fits the bill nicely. Recommended.

Even Better!, February 24, 2005
This review is from: Messerschmitt Me 262 Sturmvogel - Warbird Tech Vol. 6 (Revised Edition) (Paperback)
This is an update of the book written some years ago. It is even better than the first. It is cheaper than the earlier version too!!!! Definitely worth it.
