Even if you're a casual fan of Manfred Mann's Earth Band, you owe it to yourself to own the album. If you think they were a good rock and roll band, this will confirm they were a great rock and roll band. Just outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buddha is the ultimate classic MMEB song, March 19, 2009
This review is from: Messin (Reis) (Audio CD)
I have NO idea why MMEB has never put "BUDDHA" on any of their live albums as this was a mainstay of their live performances back in the 70's! This entire album is great and is a hidden classic which also includes "MESSIN'", another part of their regular set in the 70's. I only saw them headline one time with the release of "The Roaring Silence", but I've seen them several other times as an opening act, which blew most of the headliners off the stages at times. Buy this album before it goes out of print because you'll play it for the years to come. Enjoy listening to this...got it? GET IT!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Hidden Gem In All Things Mann, September 16, 2008

I am miffed that given the number of Mann fans out there that this will be the first review of this album, but it is hard to find and that may have alot to do with that (as I write this it shows to be available on Amazon)? Quite simply this is the album that introduced me to Manfred Mann's Earth Band in the early seventies. Perhaps like many young teens I was heavily into the newly available FM radio stations that were so called "progressive rock". The one out of Birmingham Alabama that I listened to was, at first, on the air from midnight to 5:30 in the morning, otherwise it was a Black oriented music station. It was, apparently, the waning days of hippiedom and the DJ was called "Father Tree". He would play whole LP sides which was cool. Anyway, the station was growing up, changing...Going from album sides to individual cuts and expanding their air time from the aforementioned limited daily broadcast to 24 hours. It was in this context that certain "tracks" I heard made an indelible impression. "Get Your Rocks Off", "Messin'", and "Buddah" from Messin' by Manfred Mann's Earth Band were such tracks. Personally, I like this album as good, or better, than any other Mann album. I cannot imagine any already dyed in the wool fan not loving it and think it would be quite easy to attract new fans. I would rather have it than any of Mann's other albums and there are many good ones in that cannon. As you gather, I recommend it. The CD transfer of my several year old copy is soft on the highs so that when you correct that you're exposed to a not unnoticeable bit of tape hiss. If the sonics were pristine I'd give this 5 stars. I'm guessing the one on Amazon has been improved, but regardless this is Mann hitting on all cylinders!
