Book Description

4 and upP and up
All kinds of animals show up at a young girls house, each enjoying the special tea party to which they have been invited. Certain animals, however, simply lack the decorum for a proper tea. While cleaning up afterward, the young girl realizes that some activities are best left to humans.

Editorial Reviews

Review

The debut children's book of pediatric nurse Cheri Bivin Deich, The Messy Monkey Tea Party is a humorous picturebook about a young girl who has the exciting idea of inviting all sorts of animals to tea. But each animal encounters its own quirky difficulties at teatime, and the monkeys leave the biggest mess of all! "They swung from the trees and tossed dishes around / And were making a constant, low chattering sound. // They threw their cake and their cookies this way and that / Then plopped in a chair and finally sat. // The monkeys began tying napkins in knots / On their heads they balanced cups and tea pots." The colorful and exaggerated illustrations add the perfect visual touch to this playful children's book. --Children's Bookwatch (Midwest Book Review), April 2007

The Messy Monkey Tea Party offers a riotous look at what would happen if you invited animals to tea. Berserking alligators, bad smelling hippos, and an ostrich too shy to take its head out of the sandbox all stop by for tea. When the monkeys show up, five all wearing one dress, the mayhem caused by the other animals escalates to complete pandemonium. The little girl who started it all by sending an invitation to the zoo sends them all packing and, having cleaned up the mess, concludes there's a reason you don't ask animals to tea. This rowdy story is complemented perfectly by the rambunctious colors and patterns of the illustrations. They tell the story to such an extent that children will be able to "read" the book on their own and tell the story after a parent has read it to them once. --ChildrensPictureBook.info (May 2007)

This review is from: The Messy Monkey Tea Party (Hardcover)
Deich and Genth have produced a fantastic book full of well written verse and facinatingly funny drawlings! You'll want to read it over and over again with your kids...or just by yourself! I can't wait for more books by both of them!
