About the Author

Ed Shankman was born in the Bronx, New York, and lives today in Verona, New Jersey. As a creative director in the advertising industry, he has directed creative efforts for some of the world's best-known companies. Beyond the office, he has always spent his time chasing creative inspiration as a writer, guitar player, and painter. His first book, ""I Went to the Party in Kalamazoo,"" uses rhyme young readers to imagine the ultimate children's party. With illustrator Dave O'Neill, he has created four winning children's titles for Commonwealth Editions.

Dave O'Neill made his published debut with The Boston Balloonies, alongside longtime friend and wordsmith Ed Shankman. Dave has worked as a graphic designer and illustrator since receiving his bachelor of fine arts (BFA) from William Paterson University in 2001. A native of Mount Olive, New Jersey, he now hangs his hat and sharpens his pencils in Montclair. Since Balloonies, he and Shankman have published three more children's titles with Commonwealth Editions.

I got this book because my son loved the "Boston Balloonies" so much and this had the same illustrator and author. This book tells the story through the eyes of the little boy, so the illustrations are even more expressive. The bright colors and expressive facial expressions on the characters helped captivate my 1 and a half year old. I'll admit that he doesn't have the attention span to get through the whole book yet, but I imagine that it would be perfect for kids starting at 2 and going all the way through grade school.

Just like Boston Balloonies, the text rhymes in a "Suess-ish" fashion, so that also is great for little ears.

It's a nice hard-cover binding with full-color pages. It's not a board book, but the pages are thick enough to not tear easily. Great price!

This is a classic young childs book. Told through the eyes of a young boy the book takes on a real young child feel. The rhyming words that make it easy to read and the bright expressive pictures have captivated my young childrens imagination.
I would recommend this book and also the first book by these two creative individuals; The Boston Ballonies.

We had the lovely opportunity of meeting the author and illustrator in Verona Park located in NJ. Ed read the story to the kids and Dave was drawing pictures. I have two boys 3 and 5 who absolutely love this book. We read it every day. They laugh out loud throughout the entire story. The pictures are so colorful and bright. Very catching. The story is quite engaging, very Suess like. It just flows wonderfully. I would highly recommend this book. Everyone needs to meet this moose!

Recently took a trip to Maine and came across this book. Was a great way for my daughter to commemorate the trip in lieu of things she doesn't really need like stuffed animals. The book is really cute and well written. The entire book rhymes which is perfect to read to a toddler. I highly recommend it!

We found this book while vacationing in Maine and it's beautifully illustrated, rhymes, funny, ironic, a good book to enjoy. It's probably perfect for a 3-5 year old but a 2 year old and older kids would probably enjoy it too.

Before leaving for my trip to Maine...I told my preschool class a few things about Maine and what I might see. Of course, a Moose was one of the animals I told them I might come across. So,while I was out browsing in downtown Bangor, I noticed this book and after reading it I knew I had to get it to bring back to my class in Washington. Upon reading this book to my class they were wanting me to read it again and after the 4th time I explained that I would bring the book back and we'd read it after snack. This book definitely holds the interest of 3 & 4 yrs olds...it's colorful and funny and being a teacher it helps with story extenders because you're able to ask several different questions to your class for them to point out and or comment on. You can also do art after words and have the class write their own story using the pictures they saw in the book....I met a Moose in Maine one day.

I was in a Ben & Jerry's and on the window sil they had this book. I have a secret obsession with Moose. I opened it and saw that it had been signed by the auther. I started to read it while I was eating my icecream. I fell in love right away. I have a 2 year old and I decided to give it to him for Christmas(last year). We have to read 3 book every nights. Moose Book (as he calls it) is always the last book we read before we say goodnight. One night I was sitting in our room as I listened to my husband read to our son. I started reading it with him, from heart. I was at a party the other day telling a friend about how great it is and that she should get it(she's 6 months pregnant) I started to recite the book from heart to her. For a book that is stuck in my head I'm glad its such a cute book. I have recommend this book to all my friends with and with out children.

Cute story for kids. The pictures are really detailed and colorful. Not too hard- good for a beginning reader or a bedtime story.

More About the Author

Ed Shankman¹s entire life has been one long creative project. He has been writing children¹s books since he himself was a child. He has been a performing lead guitar player and an impassioned, if imperfect, painter. He is currently making the rounds with his most cherished project, a novel called the Backstage Man that was written over a period of three decades.

Fittingly, perhaps, Ed has earned a living for most of his adult life as Creative Director at various advertising agencies, using his connection with the creative process to help others make the most of their own creative potential. Prior to entering the advertising industry, Ed spent 7 years as a welder, having mastered the trade while living on an Israeli kibbutz in the late 1970s.

Today, Ed lives in NJ, with his wife, who is the love of his life, and their two cats.
