1.0 out of 5 stars Incorrect description - BEWARE NUT ALLERGIES
The description online says it doesn't contain nuts - but the packaging does! It's hard to find bars without nuts, so I'm disappointed and returning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Techno Muscle, February 14, 2009

I'm a technology guy who sits at a desk all day fixing problems and creating solutions. I get in early and leave whenever I can escape. There's no time for lunch almost ever. Well, I also happen to be an avid weight lifter and I need protein to maintain muscle mass. Bars are the solution. I eat at least a couple of these a day and can continue working or driving or whatever while I'm eating. I've tried a lot of bars and here's why I chose these in the end:

Positives:
- Good protein content level (not too much, not too little)
- Great array of vitamins to keep you healthy (I rarely get sick)
- A small amount of fiber, but not the kind that will leave you in a
meeting with executives squirming around from the gas. Some bars
have no fiber, while others pack it with the kind that kills your
gut
- A bit of sugar to pick you up mid-day if you're low (way better
than sucking down a soda)
- Drinks are messy, these easy and clean
- No sugar alcohols or soy protein (huge gas causers)
- Cheaper and way fewer calories than going out to lunch every day
- Faster and easier than making lunch every day

Negatives:
- Some people would list the sugar/high fructose corn syrup as a
negative, but those people must not have very high metabolisms
because these have less sugar in them than a cup of 100% fruit
juice and I find that I burn it off just typing all day. Otherwise,
I haven't found any negatives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not usually Rock Hard, June 16, 2007
By
BarEater (Brooklyn, NY United States) - See all my reviews
I have been eating these as meal replacements for many years now and while very substantial and chewy, they are NOT supposed to be rock hard. The previous reviewer must've had a stale batch somehow, or maybe faulty packaging had dried them out. At any rate, these are in no way candy bars! They are extremely chewy and taste like sweet and chocolatey vitamins. Yes, they taste like vitamins... but I have grown to LOVE them. Compare all other labels and you will find that these lead the competition - - Highest protein for the lowest fat and calories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Overall, pretty good, September 12, 2007
As far as protein bars and meal replacement bars go, this is one of the better options I've tried. The cookie dough consistency is a nice change from the traditional protein bar dryness. The calorie count is high enough to make the bar a true meal replacement. It has enough protein for all but the most exacting weightlifter with a reasonable amount of fat (6 grams) for a replacement bar. It has more carbohydrates than I care for (50 grams) but that is a small complaint. All in all, taste, nutrient content and carriability are well worth the money spent on this item.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great price but texture is a little bland, April 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I eat Met-RX meal bars every day. I've tried every single meal bar flavor multiple times, and there seems to be 3 variants. The crunchy variety, the "brownie" variety, and the mushy variety. The cookie flavor is the mushy variety, and while it's fine to eat, it's a bit like eating taffy. I prefer the crunchy variety the most, with my favorite being the "Sweet and Salty" and the crunchy pretzel one. Unfortunately the cookie dough flavor is the cheapest, but sometimes stores like Kroger will have sales and that's definitely the time to try the other flavors. It's really filling, decent flavor, but I definitely prefer the crunchy varieties much more.

4.0 out of 5 stars My favorite protein bar, September 26, 2007

I haven't tried every one on the market, but this is the one I've landed on. It does not have peanuts in it (I'm allergic). It tastes pretty good. Wears your jaw out, since it's so chewy.

The only issue I had was that the ones I ordered through Amazon felt grainy. The consistency was different than that of an individually bought one. The individual ones were better. But still, a quality bar whatever the graininess is!

5.0 out of 5 stars Meal Replacement, In a Bar, January 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Big 100 Food Bar (Health and Beauty)
I've tried a lot of supplements and snacks to try to replace a meal... this is the best bet.

I'm a student on a budget. I worked out that if I buy these it's about $2 a meal. That's if I don't buy a drink or something else with it. That's 1- 2 bars for a day of classes, $4 bucks a day, c'mon, that's A HUGE SAVINGS, even over cheapo fast food, and these are nutritious. Eat a good home meal (learn to cook guys, I did, saves money and tastes great, and it's good for impressing the ladies) at least once a day, and you're set.

The benefit of these is that they actually fill you up, not just with fiber as some brands that claim meal replacement do. Some meal replacement things are nutritionally lacking, they fill your belly but you're technically starving cause your deficient in nutrients. These are very well made and nutritionally sound, especially for younger folks like me who need more protein in their diets, if you're older this is still good, but you generally need less protein in your diet.

The taste is great too, a little sweet with some of their flavors, but overall not overpoweringly so like some brands. My favorite is the cookie dough one, it goes down the easiest too, feels like it digests the easiest as well.

Enjoy, this is a smart purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meal replacement bar, January 18, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This meal bar is just as the description claims it to be.
Very good product.
I've also tried the chocolate covered....but those tend to "melt" and make a mess when I take them in a backpack.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite!, December 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Chock full of protein and extremely filling, I love these bars. While they don't necessarily taste like chocolate chips, if you like the taste of protein, I think you will find the combination good. They are really filling, and at 9 Weight watchers points not a bad choice if you are trying to lose weight and build muscle.
