5.0 out of 5 stars I'm shrinking!!!...... yay Dr Mauro bravo! what a lifesaver you are., February 6, 2010

For the person who wasn't thrilled with the "diet" - you must have missed the whole point, that being that you can adjust it to YOUR needs. Yes this is the size of a hefty textbook, but my gosh, what an easy read. Easy to understand, easy to implement.

I have been dieting since i was 16 (we're talkin decades here!) and i've only gotten fatter (eeeek!).
For the first time in my life, i feel like i have control over my weight, and what i eat. Goodbye to following someone else's recipes and ideas of what i should eat.. this book is about guidelines, about what works and why it does, and how you can use it to make it work for you. I will never need another diet book or diet again. I finally get to choose what and how i eat, and have it actually work for me. What a delight! Unless you've been a chronic dieter, you can't even imagine.

Yes, i sent away for some of the supplements off Dr Mauro's website (same as name of book). I have tried to make up my own combinations of supplements, but when i started reading the nutritional panels and the pdf's of details of each supplements it just blew me away - i could never make up such sophisticated combinations on my own. I don't even take them everyday though i try to remember to, and even then only at a lower dose. My skin looks better and my tummy is shrinking (and i have great skin to begin with!)

There's one guy who put in a testimonial on the website that mentioned that doing this diet, he experienced
"... greater concentration and sustained mental focus.... deeper, more restful sleep... no gas(flatulence).. improvement in eyesight..." among other benefits, but i quote these particular ones as i am experiencing them too.
Amazing, for me to be shrinking, getting lighter, feeling better. For the first time in my life, who i am is not tied up with my weight anymore...it's finally something I am doing something about as a long term project for myself - i figure i am metaphorically at the equivalent of 200 miles into a 1000 mile trip.

Thanks Dr Mauro - mille grazie! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Lives up to the hype, October 24, 2009
By

This review is from: The Metabolic Diet (Hardcover)
I was originally skeptical of this book as the ideas he was presenting seemed ridiculous. However, his theories are starting to become more accepted and research backs them up. Dr. Mauro DiPasquale is a scientist, and uses research and study results to come to a conclusion on whether or not his ideas are valid. I definitely believe that there is alot of usefulness to his diet, even if it is just to increase insulin sensitivity, which is going to become crucial for people with body composition problems to do if they want to stay healthy.

The nice thing about his book is that he designs it to be variable in the amount and types of carbs, as well as the carb loading time needed. He does advocate the use of slow burning carbs and also to use fats to slow down carb absorption time (if needed) in order to make the phase switch less of a shock to the system. With this in mind the diet becomes alot more practical and alot more "do-able."

I will say that some of the nutrition section was simply copied straight out of "The Anabolic Diet" book, which is what this book is founded on. Also I started reading his book "The Anabolic Solution for Powerlifters" and he seems to go into a bit more detail there, maybe because he used to be a champion power lifter himself so he can relate to that community more.

I found it to be a great read, and a refreshing change from the 1990's high carb-low fat mantra which was a disaster for many of us. The book helps to explain to me why we crave meats, nuts and saturated fats and gives a basis for why they are necessary. However, the conclusion is that lots of carbs mixed in with the meats and fats can lead to health problems and he gives a practical way to incorporate all of these different foods into the diet.

Finally, I'd like to add that originally I thought you needed carbs to feel energetic but I feel much more energetic on a diet based on meats, nuts, eggs, cheese, non-starchy veggies, and healthy fats. The carbs, however, make me feel like crap. I'd say this diet was a godsend for me. I'm glad that this type of diet is starting to become more accepted.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book, June 8, 2011
This review is from: The Metabolic Diet (Hardcover)
If you've read his first book "Anabolic Diet" don't but this book. If you haven't read his first book "Anabolic Diet" don't buy this book.

If you read Anabolic Diet, you'll find nothing new of value in Metabolic Diet. In fact, it is of less value because he removed the sample meals from this book and instead redirects you to his website where you have to buy a premium membership to access information he gave away for free in Anabolic Diet. In addition, the author has fluffed this book up with more information on how you can buy his supplement recommendations too!

If you haven't read Anabolic Diet, but that book first:[...] because it's cheaper, it offers more value and you won't be up sold and cross sold on everything else you should be getting for free when you buy a book like this.

You've been advised, now you decide.
