5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than I expected (or how these reviews reflect)
While I moderately enjoyed "Inches from Mainline", it really was far too nu-metal sounding for my tastes. My expectations for "Metafour" therefore weren't that high. However, after hearing the track "Go" and sucumbing to boredom one day, I decided to give this CD a chance. I really wasn't expecting "Metafour" to be as good as it...

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak
With the exception of his columbian hitman this album was rather boring. The ripping off of quotes from the Alcoholic Anonymous Big Book were at first a refreshing blast from what modern music has become, (Namely rap) but this excitement was short lived upon finding out that the artists sport a link to Jagermeister's website on their own. Hrmm.. I think they are trying...

Hrmm.. I think they are trying to catch a seemingly fading market of tattooed still rocking straightXedges. Or maybe, being a hypocrite is acceptable north of the border. Ok.. I must make amends for that last statement. Hehhe...

While I moderately enjoyed "Inches from Mainline", it really was far too nu-metal sounding for my tastes. My expectations for "Metafour" therefore weren't that high. However, after hearing the track "Go" and sucumbing to boredom one day, I decided to give this CD a chance. I really wasn't expecting "Metafour" to be as good as it turned out to be, and its one of the biggest musical surprises of the year for me (beside how surprisingly-awful "St. Anger" is). Granted, the band's sound is not as heavy, but looking beyond that, one can tell that they are much more rounded and better with the sound that they have on this CD. There are still heavy songs here ("Caffiene Love Affair" being the best of the heavier tunes), but the top songs are the ones that are more restrained. "Glass Friend", a song about alcoholism, is the best on the CD. Another excellent track is the single "So Clear", which borders on being a power ballad.

I have read reviews below that call this CD "too cliche" in reference to the sound on this CD compared to "Inches...". Apparently not understanding the meaning of the word "cliche", this individual did not realize the "Inches..." was the absolute, pure, be-all-end-all prototypical example of a nu-metal CD. Besides, SinisterFiemd gave Metallica's newest CD 5 stars -- nuff said.

This album is weak. For some reason, they want to be sellouts like new KoRn or other fashioncore bands. I was a HUGE fan of their last album but noticed them hinting toward this change. They've gone completely under. My recommendation: stay away from this album and get Inches from the Mainline. If you have that, check out Mudvayne. They're not compeletely sellouts yet like these guys are

I don't have much to say about this album. It's just ho-hum. I wouldn't recommend it, nor would I advise someone against it.

I will say that I was a huge fan of their song Light On Your Feet, which they released on a demo before Inches From The Mainline came out, so I welcomed a softer approach (not that I disliked Inches...). But this album just doesn't have "it". At no point am I ever impressed with any aspect of this album. The lyrics are okay at best, the music's pretty much standard fare for the genre and the overall feel is just kinda "eh".

Pick up this album if you enjoyed works by Stereomud or Darwin's Waiting Room, although if you're not a huge fan of the harder-Nu Metal, then I wouldn't suggest bothering.

5.0 out of 5 stars DAMN!!!, November 11, 2003

Being a fan of the first album, I was really expecting a great nu-metal cd... but intern what I got was something so much better. This cd is so much more in-depth than the other album, and they didn't lose the hardness, which is found on tracks like "caffine love afair" and "columbian ascott" but added a more meldoic side to them, that was present on a few of the older tracks. Hardcore nu-metal fans probably would not like this album, but anyone looking to be amazed by a band where the dreaded sophmore curse did not effect look at metafour.

4.0 out of 5 stars NOT BAD........., October 6, 2003
This review is from: Metafour (Audio CD)
A very good follow up to the debut Inches from the Mainline. The band has matured musically, with the lead singer (Jason Rockman) showing his ability to sing on this album. It isn't as heavy or includes as many of the hardcore vocals as the first album, but nevertheless, that doesn't take away from its quality. A few people have mentioned that some songs are repetitive. It isn't because they sound the same, but the structure of each track is roughly identical. Each song starts with the opener, then verse 1, the chorus, verse 2, then the chorus repeated again. No surprises or anything thrown in the middle of most songs to completely amaze the listener. That is the only downfall of the album. Let's move on to the main melody or chorus... Although there are no spectacular breakdowns in the middle of each song, the main chorus is what keeps the listener coming back for more. There are some very memorable songs that will stick in your mind all day long... I haven't had time to fully absorb the album yet, but the tracks that standout are the ballad so clear, poster boy, glass friend, and drain me....pick it up, a good purchase....If you really loved the first album and the vocals, you might find this album a bit dissapointing. But if you are like me, then you will be willing to adapt to a slightly more hard rock edge than the nu-metal side of things...different can be good...BUY IT, end of story!

I first heard about Slaves on Dope from the Nonpoint website. I went out and bought their 2nd cd and i was impressed. I really like the way the songs blend w/ each other. Jason Rockman's vocals remind me of a hardcore band i've heard, pretty nice. Good cd i liked it a lot.

i have purchased both of their cds and this one is defenetely more mature. their first was more agressive yet it lacked the melody that is present in their sophmore album. if your a fan of hard rock such as disturbed staind godsmack or any other hard rock or metal band this cd is a great album.

Slaves on Dope's second CD is a far cry from their first album Inches From the Mainline. While Inches was much harder with more screaming, Metaphor is a little softer, less screaming, but still hard crunching guitars. If you liked the first album, definitely get this one, you won't regret it. Not as good as Inches, but a good CD anyways.
