5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't seem possible but..., July 8, 2011
This review is from: War Metal Battle Master (Audio CD)
this has to be one of the freakin' metallest albums ever. While I want to laugh at the over the top song titles and lyrics, LoM play their metal with such intensity and passion that you have to love them. their old-school but with such power and metallic force with meaty riffs, thundering bass and a drummer that unleashes hell. LoT are kings and I'm sure don't get the respect they deserve. Check out their tasteless but awesome video for "War Metal Battle Master" on Youtube!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars All Bow to the Mighty Minotaur!, June 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: War Metal Battle Master (Audio CD)
On a first glance, Lair of the Minotaur is nothing to write home about: a traditionalist heavy metal trio who play undisciplined old school thrash (think Venom, Hellhammer, early Celtic Frost, Bathory, Voivod and Slayer) with a hardcore sensibility and really embarrassing lyrics about the goriest episodes of Greek mythology while adding some Motörehead/High on Fire flourishes here and there. But once this CD starts spinning, the magic starts: somehow, all this disparate and potentially campy musical elements that don't have any business being together in the first place become punishing heavy metal juggernauts that hit you harder than Hercules and never fail to leave a smile on your face. All the songs included on this CD are lethal moshing material, my personal favorites being the ripping thrasher War Metal Battle Master and the crushing epic Doomtrooper that leads into Hades Unleashed, a track that sounds exactly like a legion of bloodthirsty demons storming out the gates of hell. So, maybe Lair of the Minotaur doesn't thread any new or particularly interesting artistic ground, but if you're looking for a raw, dirty, thrashing good time, contemporary heavy metal can't possibly get any better than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Recording Kicks Serious Arse, May 4, 2010
This review is from: War Metal Battle Master (Audio CD)
If you consider yourself a fan of Metal then there is no reason you should not support this recording. Buy it now and listen to it's glory. Whether you are new to the Metal or have been listening to it since the early 80's, this recording will appeal to you. Each track is seething with brutality, gripping you from the first second. There is not a stale moment in the entire track listing. Never letting up, War Metal Battle Master will kick your arse into next Tuesday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs For The Slaughter, July 26, 2010
This review is from: War Metal Battle Master (Audio CD)
Southern Lord signs good acts, and this three piece is a d**n good one. When I bought this, I had no idea who they were; I honestly bought it because of the Southern Lord Label. I'm very glad I did. Everything here is awesome, the hardcore harsh vocals, the outright pounding drums (there's lots for other bands to take from Chris Wozniak, here; he's definitely throwing down the gauntlet), the bass work, on and on. The songs are awesome and epic without any please-the-market junk here. This is outright metal. In the best of all worlds, these guys would tour with Manowar at their meanest. While other bands (and bought bought it all, folks, I'm not downing it) are comping up with pirate metal, battle metal, female-fronted metal, these guys are just metal, metal to the core. If you have to give it a name, call it slaughter metal. That's all they're doing: a whole lot of slaughtering going on. Buy it.
