4.0 out of 5 stars Metal Up Your Arse!!!! October 24, 2002
I have nothing but good words to say about this box set. Brian and the people at Metal Blade did a great job with this. 10 discs in all, disc 10 is a DVD with live videos and some other tidbits of fun stuff. The book is killer with an interview with Lars and Brian, as well as thoughts form Metal Blade artists. Metallica's first (or second) version of "Hit The Lights" is worth the price alone. I only give it 4 out of 5 stars, only because if I was to give it 5, then this box set would have had EVERY Metal Blade cd put out.
If you bought any thing from Metal Blade in the past, then reguardless you should buy this. Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under and Armored Saint feature prominalty in this box, but it has alot of good stuff, no filler here (except GWAR maybe).
Get yours quick, the set is limited to 5,000 numbered copies, I have number 2008, and I pre-ordered mine in August or so RIGHT from Metal Blade.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great blend of old metal December 5, 2010
By eilonwe
since amazon doesn't list the tracks OR the "artists" available on this compilation, for those of you considering this massive collection, let me provide the track list for you. One of the reasons I got this collection is because the very first song is Metallica's very first demo "Hit the Lights" an almost impossible to find song. Unfortunately, it's the ONLY metallica song on here. But there are many other gems buried in here and the DVD is chock full of lots of music videos for your feasting pleasure. One thing I enjoyed is that each disc is a nice mix of bands, so you can pop one in and have a nice mixed cd of bands to listen to. Or you burn the whole thing to your computer and weed out the bands you don't like and make your own mix (which is what I ended up doing)... there's ALOT of bands on here and this is a really great value. Even for the $60 I originally paid for this in 2002. There were only 5000 originally produced so pay attention to the production number of your box when you get it ... the lower the number supposedly the more valuable it will be to collectors.

Track listing
1. Hit the Lights - Metallica (this is their first demo song)
2. Captive of Light - Malice
3. Live For the Whip - Bitch
4. Search and Destroy - Demon Flight
5. Lesson Well Learned - Armored Saint
6. Child of the Damned - Warlord
7. Be My Slave - Bitch
8. Die by the Sword - Slayer
9. Tempter, --Trouble
10. Day of the Saxon, --Witchkiller
11. Give 'Em the Axe - Lizzy Borden
12. Chemical Warfare - Slayer
13. Blower
14. Damnation - Fates Warning
15. Deathrider - Omen
16. American Metal - Lizzy Borden

1. Animosity - Corrosion of Conformity
2. Fear Beyond the Vision - Nasty Savage

3.0 out of 5 stars So-so November 23, 2002
There is a LOT of great music here, there is no argument about that. It just seems like the same hand full of bands are scattered about 9 CDs. With 20 yrs under their belt, I thought this package would be a lot more diverse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good August 31, 2004

This box set is a metalhead's dream come true. If you want someone to get into metal, or if you want to get into metal, buy this first. Favorite bands here are GWAR, Metallica, Slayer, Six Feet Under, and Cannibal Corpse.

5.0 out of 5 stars buy this set before they run out!!! December 3, 2002
Nine CD's, one DVD, theres alot of music on this box set. If you're a long time metalhead or you are familiar with most of these bands then I wouldn't be suprised if you have this box set already. For everybody out there who loves metal but aren't that familiar with these bands, GET THIS SET! Theres so much good music on this from people you might not hear that often (if at all). Its a great compilation of really great music, thats what it is. They only made 5,000 of these so you better get a set before it runs out.
