4.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for classic metal fans February 22, 2008
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I always love to see classic metal shows made available again on DVD so I can relive the music of my youth. And while it's great to see old Maiden and Priest gigs, it might be even more exciting to discover a less expected release -- like this one, featuring one of the most underrated, underappreciated bands of all time.

As far as the A/V quality of this disc, it's pretty good, but isn't going to blow anyone away. The audio is as good as can be expected from an outdoor show that probably wasn't recorded on the fanciest equipment. The video is just OK, and there are enough missing scalps to indicate either sloppy camera work or faked widescreen (where they chopped off the top and bottom of the image to make it fit a widesceen TV -- but it's not even anamorphic!).

On the plus side, this show predates the ridiculous trend of hyperactive editing that plagues a lot of concert DVDs (see Kiss Symphony for perhaps the worst example -- great show, but you can't watch it because, and I'm not exaggerating, the shot cuts every 1-3 seconds for the entire duration). It's a multi-camera shoot, but each shot lingers long enough for you to enjoy what's going on.

And the performance is great! My only criticisms are that I've heard Mike Howe in better voice (in fact, he sounded a bit better than this when I saw them in '91 on the Operation Rock & Roll tour) and that the show is only 72 minutes long. The band is totally on their game, playing mainly tunes from the first two Mike Howe albums, but mixing in a few tracks from their first two classic albums (which featured the late David Wayne on vocals). And don't get me wrong, Howe isn't bad here; he just isn't at his best.

There are no extra features, but that's not such a big deal.

This DVD was filmed in 1991 during Metal Church's prime at the Dynamo Festival in Europe. Witness the past with over 100,000 screaming true metal heads screaming their heads off.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have June 26, 2009
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I've been listening to and seeing MC since the Dark album, and met a couple of lineups too. I love David Wayne the best but Mike Howe contributed to keep this awesome band alive and thankfully it was captured on video! Now Ronnie Munroe is doing a great job. I bought this DVD because MC have a special place in my heart because as far as I'm concerned they were the best underrated metal band ever, not even arguable, sorry :) anyway the sound is as if you were there, fluctuating from the beginning, but they get it right. As far as I'm concerned the value of this DVD is more than worth it.
