This book is wonderful in so many ways. First, the jewelry in it is gorgeous, elegant, simple and also creative and inspiring. The photos are beautiful and there are step by step instructions with lots of tutorial photos for each project. This book couldn't be more clear. As with most jewelry books it starts with tools you'll need, then moves onto basic techniques that will be used in the projects throughout the book. The tutorials are easy to understand, clear as day, detailed but short enough to fit tons of projects in. I would say this is a great book to start with for beginners and is also a good reference and inspiration for all levels of jewelry artists. It has all of the up-to-date information on clays, kilns, tools, etc. I learned so much from this book and I have not even popped in the DVD yet.

As a side note, the book is well designed and the binding is secure (I've purchased other jewelry books that have weak bindings and fall apart within two days). I am a professional graphic designer and can appreciate the typography and layout of this book - which is important because it helps draw you in, makes the reading easy on your eyes and gives it a nice flow.

This book was well thought out and created by a true designer down to the very last sentence. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Art of Metal Clay November 27, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Very thorough, superb photos and graphics...an extraordinary amount of work, research, experience and talent evident on every page. Altho the artist / author included techniques that did not require a kiln, it appeared to me firing clay art or jewelry in even a small kiln may produce best results, optimize creative process and allow an artist to design/produce the widest variety of pieces. The range of projects demonstrated from simple to complex, was impressive. I've seen other books on metal clay art, but older volumes without latest materials and materials on this fascinating art form.
